Audi is going to offer us a new 2018 Audi TT model pretty soon. So there is a good side but also a bad side behind this. Firstly, the good news is that an update is coming and that Audi is giving us a completely new TT model which we have been expecting to get. But the bad news is that the update is not so large and what we get mostly is pretty much the same car.
Audi has a habit of redesigning their cars this way, so we essentially get the same kind of a car every time around with just small updates and advances made. Although people know this Audi is still working pretty well and as long as this keeps going for them they are probably not going to change it. So for now we are going to get a new 2018 Audi TT with a small upgrade but it is a brand new car in fact.
For the 2018 version of the TT model, the designers from Audi have decided to give it some updates for the inside by adding some new technology pieces and also updating some as well. The outside has gain some aesthetic enhancements which will help the model look a bit fresher. As for under the hood of the car, there were some minor nips and tucks, but nothing too extreme.
All in all, the new 2018 Audi TT does not change so much but it is a new car. We will see if people are going to appreciate this after the release date but now you can check out our review and have something more beyond the pictures only.
Release Date for the 2018 Audi TT
Actually you will not have to wait so long for the 2018 Audi TT to be released. The release date is actually scheduled for the mid-2017. It makes this car one of many earlier arrivals that are coming but it can be like a very early Christmas present if you were into the previous TT models.
What is the Potential Price?
Interestingly enough, but since an early release is imminent, the 2018 Audi TT has already gained the price rates for the car. This means that the coupe version of the 2018 TT will be priced at $43,500 while the TTS model is going to be offered for $52,500. With this you can also opt for an added Technology package, a sport seat package, Audi Design Selection and an added Bang & Olufsen sound system, all of which will individually add more to the final price.
Exterior Revision of the 2018 Audi TT
When comparing the new 2018 Audi TT and its predecessor we see how many similarities these two models actually have. There is a big emphasis made to symmetry of the car and it makes it look wider and lower. The new grille is actually flatter and looks more upright for this car. With the sharp creases in the hood it makes this car look sharper and visually appealing. It also gives the effect of the car being stretched forward as well.
The front end of the car is almost completely accentuated with horizontal lines and you can see it around the grille, headlamps and side intakes. The headlamps have changed and now feature a very interesting new design which looks more aggressive and modern compared to before. The standard LED lights are added as well. The TTS is characterized by adding even more aggressiveness and chrome to complete the exterior look.
A Difference between the Inside and the Outside
There is a departure of the design between the inside and the outside of the 2018 Audi TT model. Where the exterior makes all things sharp and horizontal, the inside goes for a curvy and an organic form. The horizontal lines are still dominant, but now there are more circular gauges, steering wheel center and air vents which manage the make the inside a bit more interesting. The door panels actually come with some arching shapes and gentle curves.
The cabin comes with a two-tone option which opens the cabin a bit and gives it a little bit more luxury. It is mainly thanks to the minimalist touches and a downward sloping front dash which makes the inside more open and airy. This is a significant departure from a dark and blackish inside of the traditional German cars.
Drivetrain and Output
The engines are going to be transferred for the 2018 Audi TT and there are going to be different European and US versions offered. The Euro spec engines include the 2.0-liter TDI engine making 184 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The next one is the 2.0-liter turbo with an output of 230 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of twist. The most powerful is the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine found under the hood of the TTS version and it manages to gain 310 horsepower.
As for the US versions we have the 2.0 TFSI model which is slightly less powerful than the Euro one making 220 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The one seen in the TTS is the 2.0-liter four-pot, which is able to make 292 horses and 280 pound-feet.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
Depending on the type of used engines, the top speed and the acceleration will differ for the 2018 Audi TT. The Euro spec versions start with the TDI 2.0-liter which races to 60 mph in 7.0 seconds and has a top speed of 146 mph. The 2.0-liter turbo can go to 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. As for the most powerful engine in the TTS version it manages to get to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.
The US versions can go to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds for the base version of the engine and also have a top speed of 130 mph. While the more powerful TTS can spring to 0-60 mph in 4.6 seconds and have a top speed of 155 mph.
Fuel Economy Ratings
There is also a difference for the European and US spec versions of the 2018 Audi TT when it comes to the fuel economy as well. The Euro 2.0 TDI has 56 mpg, the 2.0 TFSI manages 34 mpg, while the 2.0 TFSI has yet to release the fuel consumption stats. But the same thing goes for the US versions as the fuel consumption numbers are not yet offered for both of the versions.
Dimensions of the 2018 Audi TT
The size of the new 2018 Audi TT does not change. If they did not change anything else they are surely not going to change the size of the car. The dimensions remain the same and keeps it a nice fit for the 2018 TT. The length is 13.71 ft, wheelbase 8.22 ft, width is 6.01 ft and height 4.44 ft.
With the new version of the 2018 Audi TT you can expect to gain a lot of similar safety specs as you did with the previous one. The car gains a lot of high end safety additions and it is going to help with occupant protection immensely. Some usually added pieces of equipment include the collision brake assist, lane-keep assist system and blind-spot monitors. The structure of the car is also new so crash tests for the US version are nog going to be released any time soon.
Rivaling Cars in the Segment
The newest 2018 Audi TT will not change so much and it will greatly depend on the competition and how it might fare. But as things are going right now there is a great possibility that this model does not gain so much advantage to the competition as it was hoped for. Given that the models it competes with include BMW 2 Series cope and the Nissan 370Z, it might take more than the given update to expand the sales.
