2018 Chevrolet Chevelle

In a prospect of finally getting a production vehicle the 2018 Chevrolet Chevelle Concept is being made. This is an interesting prospect for Chevrolet who are in a way looking to revive one of their past markee products. But before we get to the real thing we have to go through some concept cars. It was announced that they are working on making a concept version of the car now which will be showcased in 2018 which will be the basis of the future production vehicle which is still without a release date.

They are actually basing their potential car on an earlier draft and a past concept model which was made in 2003. The model was actually made using the Chevrolet Super Sport design and could be a good basis to start for this version. The past concept was showcased at the North American International Auto Show in 2003 and was aimed to rival potential cars like the Camaro model, but it did not came into fruition back then. Now we are back on the same track with this idea and we are hoping that the car does become available for a major auto show within the upcoming year where we can see the fruits of their labor in person.

The 2018 Chevrolet Chevelle Rumors so Far

The latest batch of rumors actually says that Chevrolet is gearing for a 2018 Chevrolet Chevelle concept version being released for the Detroit Auto Show. But they did not say which year and all that we have is that they are planning something, the question is what. All of the fuss cannot end up with nothing so it means that something might come out of all the things which are happening currently. According to the latest sources, the car which they plan to preview is going to be a “retro-styled compact-ish car” and they are also planning to make it smaller than a mid-size sedan. Actually they haven’t cleared up anything about the car at all and we are still at a loss but hopefuly that something still might come out of this.

Chevrolet Recently Trademarked the Chevelle Nameplate

In 2013 Chevrolet actually filed for a trademark name brand in regards with the Chevelle name. As it was later found out the trademark was concerning “exterior badges for vehicles” category of goods and services. Additionally, based on the newest rules which does not allow companies to trademark anything without providing solid evidence. It just further leads us to believe that Chevy is serious with their trademark and are not doing this in vain. This application is as we see the first step that Chevy is making in order to bring the Chevelle back.

Potential Design of the 2018 Chevrolet Chevelle Concept

As we see it there are few things which might make it for the 2018 version of the Chevrolet Chevelle concept car. First of all, the same Zeta Lite platform that the Camaro uses and which Chevy shares with Holden might be used here. The architecture behind this car is not as cutting edge as you would expect it to be, but it is in fact much more sophisticated than the Mustang one.

There are also some predictions which state that we might get a 400 bhp LS2 6.0-liter V-8 engine under the hood. It will probably be matted to a six-speed manual transmission which will provide the necessary performance rating for the car.

The idea is not only to copy everything which the old Chevelle model was known for, they plan to mix a dramatic design with true performance of the car which is supposed to provide us with the necessary formula of the future. What we will probably get is an advanced chassis with a fuel-efficient power-train and a contemporary design.

Some History behind the Chevrolet Chevelle Automobiles

The old Chevrolet Chevelle was produced for the first time in 1964 as a mid-size car. It went on to be produced during the remainder of the 60s and 70s when it was discontinued in 1978. Still it left a big enough legacy behind it which is valued to this day and is remembered as one of GM’s most successful products.

During the introductory 1964 model year, there was a total of 76,800 Chevelle cars sold. It was made in two engine variants, the 283 and 327 cubic inch ones with the horsepower ranging from 195 through 300 which was based on the engine and the configuration. It was during the mid-1965 year when Chevelle came out with a groundbreaking option with the l79 350 hp 327 V8, also known as the RPO Z-16. Chevelle also introduced the 65 Chevelle Z-16 with a L37396 big block V8 cranking out 375 hp at 5600 rpm and 420 lb.-ft. of torque at 3600 rpm.

During the 1973 and 1977 period, the Chevelle was redesigned and it actually grew in size. The car lost its sporty appearance and the ’colonnade hardtop’ models replaced the pillarless hardtop versions, with the convertible ones being dropped all-together. In 1973 they started offering luxury Laguna series, which was followed by a Malibu and then Deluxe models. The SS package was replaced completely in 1976 by a sporty Laguna S-3 coupe. It also marked the downward path and the road to discontinuation from the Chevelle cars.

Possible Competing Cars

After the 2018 Chevrolet Chevelle concept version becomes a production car, it will have to deal with certain competing cars. But which are the cars, as the Chevelle has been out of the running for so long people can hardly base this car on any of the modern vehicles. But based on the offered performance and the results that this car might have we see the Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300C as the best substitutes and rivaling vehicle for the Chevelle and the car it wants to be.

When can we expect the 2018 Chevrolet Chevelle Release Date?

Although the prospect of finally getting 2018 Chevrolet Chevelle concept is just around the corner, the real production version might be a long way off. That’s okay at least we have something rather than nothing and it just shows the legitimacy that Chevy is finally doing something which will bring back one of the more famous brands back to the circuit. The concept might debut any time during the 2018 year while the finished product will be at least a year or two separated from the concept.
