2018 Toyota Tundra

The all new 2018 Toyota Tundra will come with some small exterior and interior changes, but we expect them to be a bit braver when thinking about engine changes. The Toyota Tundra is the biggest and most powerful truck in Toyota’s line up which competes directly with Ford and Chevrolet. The main trims are going to transfer from this year’s model, so expect the return of SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 edition and Toyota Tundra TRD Pro.

What Is 2018 Toyota Tundra Release Date And Price Going To Be?

We are not sure about the release date because it’s too early to talk about it. Official data is very scarce and there were no press releases on that matter. The only promising thing is that there was a press release, last night, about the increase of sales for this fourth quarter. Sales in November were actually higher than in the last month, which is quite encouraging, considering the vastness of Toyota’s plans. We are expecting some first actual details, news and concept in January, production model in November and the release in December 2017 or early January2018.

The new 2018 Toyota Tundra price range is going to be somewhere between $32,000 and $50,000 depending on the trim or model you choose (with additional equipment).

Only Some Mild Changes on 2018 Toyota Tundra Exterior

Since this model already suffered some modifications a few years ago, we don’t expect some drastic changes in 2018 Toyota Tundra exterior. The only big changes could be some updates in materials and of mechanical nature. There were some problems considering some strange vibrations when driving faster than 50mph. Every single model has that exact problem and it needs to be checked.

Other, cosmetic changes could include some easily updatable parts. The headlights could be improved by changing the shape and adding the automated high beam control. They already have the DRL (Daytime Running Lights), integrated Backup Camera, Cruise Control and easily controllable tailgate. The upper trim levels will most certainly get some higher level materials for the exterior, bigger wheels, dual exhausts and different cabs and beds.

If they decide to change something else, that would be a complete makeover. The entire design would be made from scratch. They could do it in two possible ways. They could go full hybrid – start experimenting with super light materials, get some electric motors and make it fuel efficient (which would be the smartest thing they could possibly do).

The another alternative is to go “all American”. They could use some tuff, durable materials like steel and make an enclosed frame. But, the first option seems like a better solution. The F150 is made from high durable aluminum, so we don’t expect anything less from the 2018 Toyota Tundra.

2018 Toyota Tundra Interior Is Huge

The 2018 Toyota Tundra Interior is something that can be designed as a bedroom if that pleases you. There is enough space for creativity and it should be equipped with the best equipment possible. We expect all the additional equipment from the current model, plus all the high-tech details available at the time of production. We expect the infotainment screen to be bigger, with some better operating system. We expect better steering wheel with optional leather trim. The gauge cluster needs some work, and it could be entirely made of digital elements. The additional compartments are a possibility (there is enough space, so why not?).

Of course, you cannot expect everything for the base price. As you go higher in trims, you get better materials, better equipment, and better air condition control.

2018 Toyota Tundra Engine To Add A Diesel Option?

The 2018 Toyota Tundra Engine specs have to be altered and maybe a diesel engine would do the trick. The current and older models have the exact same engine lineups which are not fuel efficient. We love those options only because they are extremely durable, but what about the fuel efficiency?

Toyota has always used a simple formula in their engineering department. They call it the QDR formula. That stands for Quality Durability Reliability. Engines they make for their trucks are practically bulletproof. They even found a guy that drove his Tundra for over 1 Million miles with just a couple of minor fixes on the engine. That is the way they don’t want to abandon and the formula which has provided them with one of the most stable customer communities. Toyota’s official representatives are pretty sure that the engine lineup is not going to change at all. They are confident in their engines and they don’t see any possibility that anything is going to change in some near future. On the other hand, that same future is not reserved for those who don’t want to change their pollution habits.

According to our sources and the newest rumors published by the “Cars in trend”, Toyota has a plan for turbocharged and diesel engines. The bad thing is, nothing is specified. There are only a couple of engines that could be considered for the main role. Some of those are the BMW’s 3.0 liter inline six petrol engine which could provide somewhere between 350hp and 500hp and the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine. Naturally lower strength brings better fuel efficiency. Maybe it could even come with the electrical engine, which would give a better fuel efficiency and a few more ponies.

The diesel engine is also a possibility. Toyota could get the Nissan’s new Cummins 5.0-liter turbo diesel engine. That is what the most of the rumors say, but there is one problem there. That is not necessary, at the moment. The fuel consumption for Toyota’s current engine line up will not be that different from the new, more expensive diesel option.

They have two options right now: the i-Force 5.7 liter V8 with 381 hp and i-Force 4.6 liter that delivers 310 hp and 327 lb.-ft. of torque. The fuel consumption of those two options is 15 mpg combined/ 13 mpg city/ 18 mpg on a highway. If they invest in the diesel option, Cummins engine to be precise, the numbers would not change enough in order to make that kind of investment and/ or price increase justifiable. Fuel consumption for the Cummins turbo diesel is 17.7 mpg combined/ 15.8 mpg city/ 20.8 mpg highway.

Summary

The next model of Toyota Tundra is, evidently going to change the way we see Tundra. There is a slim chance that we are going to see some new engine options, including the diesel option, but that is only a possibility since there haven’t been any official confirmations on that subject. All the flaws on the chassis, including the strange “vibration feel”, have to be dealt with ifToyota wants to continue the production of this “giant”. New engines and new looks are the right way for the 2018 Toyota Tundra.
