Yet another Honda model is making its way to America and it is the 2019 Honda HR-V car. This model will be using the same underpinnings as the Honda Fit model, which is already a popular vehicle worldwide. They decided to make a crossover based on the Fit, which will be a similar vehicle to the Japanese version called the Vezel in their home market. The transfer of this car to America will be followed by a name adaptation and they are calling it the Honda HR-V now.
The HR-V will slot just beneath the already established and popular CR-V model, which is a standard vehicle seen on the US soil. But as we have seen, this car has little to do with the car that they are basing it on. The appearance of the HR-V leads us to believe that it has nothing to do with the Honda Fit model. Instead it borrows a lot of exterior and styling cues from its bigger brother and also borrows cues from the CR-V model as well.
Although smaller, this car is very spacious on the inside. It hosts a lot of features and has a lot of interior roominess. The added spacing is due to the center tank design and also the use of a Magic Seat system that it comes with. The car also gets rid of the 1.5-liter four-cylinder used in the Fit and goes for a bigger 1.8-liter four-banger engine.
The model was showcased first at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show and it is finally time for it to cross the pond and come to America. The car has been existing for quite long in Japan and the American adaptation will be a good choice for the drivers here. The necessary adaption will be done and as our review states, we can be happy to see what prospect the 2019 Honda HR-V might have.
When is the US Release Date for the 2019 Honda HR-V Expected to be?
Many fans are happy to hear that the 2019 Honda HR-V is coming to America. It is pretty exciting to finally see this model appear here and it would benefit the market as well as the fans. Expanding the Honda lineup in the US brings more versatility and also grants the fans with a very lucrative offer which they will most likely take. The model is still not confirmed for an actual release as there are still some details that need to be set. This actually pits the potential release date to be somewhere in 2018, but the car is going to be marketed as a 2019 product. The release will come in Japan first, where the model is going to be updated and will be released for the home market. After that its worldwide release will be met and the model will crossover and make it to the American market. We are hopeful to see how the model might work here.
What is the Expected Price?
The exact price for the 2019 Honda HR-V is still not determined and it is still a bit far away for the product to be actually released. Because of that it might take some time to give a real price for the car now. But the model will still be released in all of the same trims that have been found in Japan. These include the base LX, the mid-range EX and the upper EX-L Navi model which are all going to be transferred from Japan here. Being that the model also comes with more transmission choices the price might differ as well based on the usage. So the LX will probably go for somewhere between 19,000 dollars to 21,000 dollars in America while the EX will range between 21,000 to 23,000 dollars. The highest trim choice, the EX-L, is going to be priced 24,000 to 28,000 dollars. All in all, the exact price will be determined once the release date is confirmed as well.
Exterior Design for the 2019 Honda HR-V
We did say that the 2019 Honda HR-V is based on the Honda Fit model style wise, but it actually does not look anything like it. As mentioned this car looks like a much smaller CR-V model with sportier elements. We can see some borrowed elements like the design of the headlamps and also the hood which are the same for the CR-V car and this one. But the HR-V hosts a lot of standalone and unique features. Namely the body lines and the rear end are all unique to the HR-V car and are going to make the difference with the redesign of the model and its 2019 incarnation.
Generally speaking this car has a pretty splendid and sporty design. It has a coupe-like roofline which comes with muscular fenders and there is also an upswept character line which is hidden along the rear door handles. We can arguably say that this car is one of the best looking models in its class. Perhaps the current segment does not have much in terms of handsome-looking competitors but this one may emerge as one of the best. The 2019 Honda HR-V will certainly take its looks as one of the advantages that it has to offer compared to the other cars in the market.
The car will also be available in three different trims, as already mentioned the LX, EX and EX-L, and some of them are all going to come with their own distinctive features and looks. But some elements are still available for all models across the board. Some standard elements include power mirrors, aluminum-alloy wheels and power tailgate locks. The debuting factor for the exterior here is the addition of a new color, a Lunar Sliver Metallic one, which will be added to the previously available set of hues.
2019 Honda HR-V Interior Redesign
The interior of the 2019 Honda HR-V will blend both the elements found in the current CR-V and Fit models. It will add a lot of exclusiveness to the mixture but the steering wheel and the instrument cluster have a basic type of a design. The passenger’s side dashboard is on the other hand unique but not particularly exciting looking. The center stack is also different but the controls and the infotainment system will be transferred from the CR-V model to the fullest. The same thing goes for the gearshifter but the center console is entirely new.
The inside of the HR-V will be the same mixture of hard plastic and soft-touch materials. But the 2019 HR-V model has a much more premium feel to it that its base car. There are some black piano inserts added, chrome pieces and very sophisticated stitching featured on the inside. The instrument cluster has “floating” illumination rings and the ECO Assist application which can change the speedometer illumination when fuel is low.
The interior of the 2019 Honda HR-V is supposed to be very room and will offer just enough space for the segment. If you think that this model seems small to you and that it might not have enough interior room, you are wrong. It will have probably one of the most comfortable interiors and will generally get the best record that one needs here.
2019 Honda HR-V Engine Option and Specs
Under the hood the 2019 Honda HR-V is powered by something a bit more powerful than the Honda Fit model. It has been announced that the HR-V is supposed to borrow from its own lineup and since the Fit has already proven to be a very good choice for the American market, it makes sense to transfer the engine from it to the 2019 HR-V. It will have a refined version of Honda’s 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine which comes with an i-VTEC and is able to make 138 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 127 pound-feet of torque at 4,300 rpm. This engine will probably be combined with either a six-speed manual transmission that comes for the 2WD models or a CVT with Honda’s “G-design” shift logic. If this variant comes to fruition we will be looking to a very good take on the new updated model which will start the new range of Honda cars.
2019 Honda HR-V 0-60 mph and Top Speed
If the 2019 Honda HR-V decides to use the mentioned powertrain, we have certain assumptions about what its acceleration capacity is going to be. The model brought good rates for the Honda Fit and seemed as a great choice for this version of the car. Since the size is not the same but we could say that it is somewhat similar, we are expecting this model to accelerate to 0-60 mph in around 10 seconds time and also develop a top speed of 125 mph. the specs seem to be standard in this sense and will keep the vehicle on track and make it competitive as the rivals are.
What Could the Fuel Economy for the 2019 Honda HR-V be?
The fuel economy could be an important factor for the 2019 Honda HR-V model but we are still not certain how much it is going to be. The vehicle will be assessed soon and it just might come about to a very good rating. People are hoping that this model is going to trump the competition and we are still not sure if they decide to make some specific additions available which are going to help with the fuel economy stats. We are expecting numbers which state a consumption of 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, and these might be a good way of updating the car
Size and Spacing
The 2019 Honda HR-V will have in a way standard dimensions that the car will manage well. It will not change for the US version and the size of the Japanese HR-V model will be simply transferred here completely. The model is 169.1 Inches long and the wheelbase is 102.8 Inches. The weight is going to be 69.8 Inches and the height is 63.2 Inches. The specs are standard here and there are even better ones seen on the inside of the car. Because the vehicle has a center-mounted fuel tank for its platform and also boasts a reconfigurable second-row of “Magic Seats” it has one of the most spacious inside of all of the crossover models. This results in 100.1 cubic feet of passenger volume and 58.8 cubic feet of cargo volume with the second row seats folded completely.
Safety for the 2019 Honda HR-V
The safety scores for the 2019 Honda HR-V will not be available for a while now. Tests will need to be done and we will expect them to be given after the model is released. There are certain parts that are going to change and the vehicle will need to be adapted to the American standards and market. The model will gain some advanced technology and will probably be set with some usual Honda-like equipment. It would be much easier to use the ones form the current rosters or simply copy from the others for starters, but it might come to even more than that.
The Rivaling Cars in the Segment
Once the 2019 Honda HR-V makes its crossover and comes to the American market once again, it will have to fight off the numerous competition which the vehicle is going to face. This includes the established competition which has been used here for a number of years so far. It may not be easy to establish the car here right away but it will certainly take them some time to make this vehicle happen here. Once you look at the competition you can immediately realize what all of them represent, cars like Mazda CX-3, Kia Soul and Nissan Juke play an important factor in the small car segment. Since the popularity of these cars is now rising in America we stand to see these cars evolve and expand. There still might be room for the 2019 Honda HR-V to make it here.
