The 2019 Mazda CX-9 is going to bring in a redesign which will change the model for the better. The vehicle has started to get dated and ever since its inception the model has not really gotten a really big makeover. The model looks almost the same as the day it arrived for the first time in the market. Sure, it did have two redesigns during its career but both of those were really small and the model only got minor retooling which did not affect the vehicle so much. The preview which we saw at the latest Los Angeles Auto Show suggests that we are in for a much larger makeover.
The Mazda CX-9 model made its way to the market in 2006 for the first time. The only two facelifts which the model got were in 2010 and 2013 and since then the model has carried on with almost no changes to it. The last update was merely an aesthetic one where the headlamps and the grille were reshaped a bit, but the only major thing was the change of the engine as the model substituted its first one in favor of 3.7-liter unit which is still uses till this day.
This new 2019 Mazda CX-9 is going to be heavily based on their Koeru concept, which was showcased only recently as well. This new model stands to introduce a new kind of a design language which will be subsequently used for other vehicles in the Mazda lineup. It is going to bring a new evolution to the company’s Kodo design language which has already brought them so much success. We are also expecting to see improvements on the inside as they will probably make it a lot more welcoming and will bring in a ton of new features for a modern environment.
Mazda has also stated that this model is going to be the first of many which will have the company’s new idea of design. This is going to start a whole new generation of Mazda models which are supposed to come out very soon in the future. Many new high-end models are going to be based on this one and we are looking forward to seeing what they plan to do and which direction are they going to take the company in.
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 is going to drop pretty soon and we saw it fit to make a review about it before its release date. But the model is going to surprise a lot of people and will gather a great following once it is released.
When is the Release Date of the 2019 Mazda CX-9 Going to be?
With the redesign finally coming for the 2019 Mazda CX-9 model the brand is going to get a much needed overhaul. The vehicle has been left untouched for a time now and has not seen any improvements which has caused it to topple down in the rankings. So the released date is probably the most expected and anticipated news about this car. There is no doubt that the vehicle will be an important asset to the company so we are probably going to see it released by next year. The model is labeled as a 2019 model but it may even come out as early as the beginning of 2018. The vehicle has been showcased recently in LA and although we were not able to see all of it more and more information have since come out. The preparation is going steadily and the model is going to get its release date pretty soon.
What is the Price of the 2019 Mazda CX-9?
The price list of the 2019 Mazda CX-9 models has been announced. The vehicles will be offered in the same set of cars that have come out with the previous generation. The set of models which we are excepting to appear include the Sport, Touring, Grand Touring and the Signature model. As far as the starting price goes, the Sport trim is going to be sold for $31,520. We move on to the Touring which costs $35,970 and then the Grand Touring which is going to be offered for $40,170. The Signature model is the highest trim from the ones available here and it will be priced $44,015. All in all, the price has not jumped so high given the previous vehicle so the sales are probably not going to plummet and as the model has finally been given the number of updates that we expected it to get, we are hopeful of seeing this car pretty soon.
A New Look for the 2019 Mazda CX-9
The newest 2019 Mazda CX-9 is already going to borrow form the latest Koeru concept model, but this one is going to be significantly toned down. Although, the production version model is not as aggressive as the concept is, it still manages to borrow the elements from the model and its cues. Compared to the smaller siblings, the CX-9 has a bigger gone grille and slender headlamps, helping it stand out from the rest. The headlamps are transferred form the concept model but use a different cluster which is much easier to make. Additionally, down below we can see a completely new and reshaped bumper for this model. The bumper is also inspired by the concept and uses a wide center intake and adds blade-like chrome inserts. This makes for a sporty new stance which you would not find as a common addition for bigger models.
The rear end also has a pair of sporty looking taillights. There is a chrome strip which is placed between the two clusters, which is directly transferred form the Koeru model. But the back part also borrows elements form the CX-5 as it has the same tailgate and a rear bumper borrowed from it. There are only some smaller details which divide the two apart and which differentiate the two cars.
The newest 2019 Mazda CX-9 will be using 18-inch wheels as standard and will also offer 20-inch ones as optional. There are also going to be seven exterior colors added for the car. You can customize the car to your liking and make it look whatever you want with the newly offered pallet of color choices.
Interior and Upgrades
The interior of the 2019 Mazda CX-9 is a lot more impressive than you would think it would be. It does come with the expected aluminum inserts in the dash along with a free standing screen, there are plenty of unique elements added for the car now. The model gives us an impression of a much more expensive model than initially thought. The dash has been reworked with the upper section being completely different to any other Mazda car. The A/C vents are redesigned and the driver’s side seems much more familiar compared to before. The instrument cluster is the same and it has the familiar gauges added with the three-spoke steering wheel.
The addition of the aluminum and wood inserts, which you can find in the door and the dash, make the inside look a lot more luxurious. The upper trims can even be ordered exclusively with original Japanese rosewood, if you wish, so it will make things additionally impressive. They also add Nappa leather which come in Supple Auburn color. All the models have also made great strides when it comes to sound insulation. There are three layers of materials which are going to help make the noise inside the cabin lesser. There are also many new convenience features, starting with the Mazda Connect infotainment system which you can operate via a seven-inch touchscreen for the base and eight-inch touchscreen for the upper models. The car will also add Bluetooth connectivity, a 4.5-inch TFT screen, 2.1-amp USB ports, a color head-up display and an optionally offered Bose premium audio system with 12 speakers.
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 will be powered by the same engine which was introduced with its first facelift. The engine is the 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, SkyActiv engine one which provides a power output of 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. This engine does not provides the same amount of power as the previous model did, but it is much lighter and helps to improve fuel economy of the car. The FWD versions are 198 pounds lighter while the AWD ones shed 287 pounds of weight. The engine will be used with a six-speed automatic transmission, and there is also a i-Activ predictive all-wheel-drive system given optionally.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
With the new kind of an engine that the 2019 Mazda CX-9 is going to have the acceleration is going to improve a bit. This is all because of the lighter powertrain which will shed excess weight and make things a lot easier and lighter. The model will accelerate to 0-60 mph in around 7 seconds while the top speed will go up to 130 mph. All in all, not a big change compared to before but still it is something to be hopeful about.
Fuel Economy and Ratings
The fuel economy for the 2019 Mazda CX-9 has not been confirmed officially, but the car is going to improve. Thanks to the new chassis and the lighter engines used the model is going t shed some excess weight and it will help it make better production and generally consume less fuel. The model will probably get ratings of about 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg in the highway, which pits it in a better category than the rivals.
The Vehicle’s Size and Interior Room
With the improvements that the 2019 Mazda CX-9 has made come the similar numbers and size rates as before. The model still offers plenty of roominess on the inside and will make the passengers feel extremely comfortable. The dimensions have changed a little bit compared to the previous model but not as much to make the vehicle a completely different one. The car is 1.2 inches shorter but has a 2.2-inches longer wheelbase. The overall size of the car is now 199.4 inches and the wheelbase amounts to 115.3 inches. The width now totals to 77.5 inches and the height is 67.6 inches. As for the inside of the vehicle, the passenger volume allows for 135 cu ft of spacing, and the cargo bay can fit 14 cu ft. Thanks to a different chassis that the model uses the vehicle is going to be lighter and will amount to a curb weight of 4336 lb.
Safety Improvements for the 2019 Mazda CX-9
The 2019 Mazda CX-9 is not only going to get lighter and get better fuel ratings it also improves its safety as well. With the newly integrated chassis, which is lighter than before, it is also more rigid and provides better protection for the passengers. This helps the vehicle in two ways as it improves the safety but it does benefit the fuel usage as well seeing that the model is going to improve in various spheres. Another improvement which comes with the safety is the addition of an i-ActiveSense system. It will update the Mazda Radar Cruise Control and Blind Spot Monitoring first of all and also add Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Control, Lane-Keep Assist, Smart City Brake Support, Forward Obstruction Warning and Distance Recognition Support.
Competition and the Segment
The updated 2019 Mazda CX-9 will probably get a better status in the segment now. The models that have appeared here have been receiving updates and have improved with the previous generations, but the CX-9 has simply not been capable of doing so. The model is getting a sheet of improvements and the rivaling cars should get a bit concerned as the model will certainly get better sales to go along with the established improvements that have been made. The models that we have on the market now include the Honda Pilot and the Toyota Highlander which are going to specifically be beneficial for this car and this version.
