2019 Nissan Leaf

Will the 2019 Nissan Leaf finally bring a bigger change or are we left to the same kind of a car again? Fans have been eagerly waiting to get the updated Leaf as the model is pretty useful and yet it has not changed almost at all over the years. The vehicle could finally do that for the 2019 version and our sources say that a new car is on its way. It is still up to debate how big the changes are going to be and whether they include something revolutionary this time.

The Leaf was introduced in 2010 and since then has not received a major overhaul. We are still waiting for the second-generation model to appear, but whether this is it remains to be seen. Instead of a larger redesign we have only been graced with facelifts so far. The model has received plenty of upgrades when it comes to the drivetrain and the interior, but there was no redesign of the exterior of the car.

The 2019 Leaf model is currently the best selling highway-capable electric car. Its sales have been slowly increasing with every year after the model came out and the lack of a major redesign did not affect the sales rates. Its EV/Hybrid version even did a great job in the US market and managed to show great interests for the car even there.

The best aspect of the newest model is not only going to be its updated powertrain and its driving ability. The interior is the greatest focus that they need to make for the redesigned 2019 Leaf. As the car is a compact hatchback car with five doors, the interior has been built like in a mid-size car. It certainly offers the spacing of one and designers have done such a great job to address the comfort and the roominess inside the car.

The 2019 Nissan Leaf is still currently in development and we are expecting to finally get more out of the car. The Leaf is an interesting model and it is sure to draw a lot of attention so let’s see what could be changed for it.

When is the New 2019 Nissan Leaf Going to be Available?

The newest 2019 Nissan Leaf is in its starting developing stages that are in preparation now. The model is still being made and there are certain elements and many changes that we are hoping to see. It is time for this car to finally update its style so there is a great probability that the 2019 version might just do that. As far as the release date for the car goes, it is still far away. The car might just appear for the 2019 model year and if it does we are just hoping that it comes out by the begging of the year. There are more elements that come into play here and could change the outcome of things but we have to be patient and see what comes out of it.

What is the Price Going to be?

As far as the price of the future 2019 Nissan Leaf goes, it will be higher than the current one but still not sure by how much. Being that the model is going to change, the price is going to depend on how much it changes. If they decide to pack in too much new technology it might lead to the price inflating for too much. But they do not want to do that and will probably offer a stable price that will appeal to the general audience.

The sales for the current model start with the base Nissan Leave S version. You can get the base car for a price of 29,010 USD as a base MSRP price. The SV version costs 34,200 USD while the highest costing trim level is the Leaf SL car which is going to go for 36,790 USD. All of the given prices are probably very close to what we might eventually get but this is all depends on the development of the car. More information will come but we are hopeful for a small boost in the price of the 2019 Leaf.

2019 Nissan Leaf Exterior Updates

Making the 2019 Nissan Leaf is going to be hard. The current spy photos that have been seen cover most of the details that the car has. It is probably best to keep things hidden until the vehicle gets to an advanced stage in development and design. Compared to the current model the 2019 Nissan Leaf has to change. But it is not yet sure if they decide to take things to a drastic level or they just retain and decide to do some small innovating. All in all, it might still prove to be useful to revisit some details of the current model.

The exterior update has been for the large part passed for the current Nissan Leaf. The Japanese designers decided to keep the visual appearance the same for another year at least. Being that the sales were already so good, why change something if it is not broken. The design could still hold up and be a competitive one for the market. The only major addition was the introduction of some new color choices, namely Forged Bronze, Coulis Red and Deep Blue Pearl.

What makes the car interesting and what helps its design still hold up on the current market are some polarizing details that other models do not have. The car has no grille in the front, it only possesses a wedge shaped nose which points down towards the bumper. There is a large rectangular hatch in the center where the two charging sockets are placed. The headlights are positioned high and sweep almost towards the windshield. The rear end features vertical LED stripes which comprise the high-mounted vertical taillights in the back. They will probably employ a lot of the elements given here for the 2019 version but the question will still remain to what extent.

2019 Nissan Leaf Interior Changes and Additions

The interior of the 2019 Nissan Leaf may actually receive a lot more attention this time. The car will add some more convenience updates as well as some technological additions. You can find an updated infotainment system which will be the same for all trim levels. Nissan says that this version can be made to be much more user friendly than before. There are still a lot of things that have to be confirmed with the interior and they will come in due time.

The base S level models will get some new technology like Bluetooth connectivity, audio streaming, hands-free text messaging, and NissanConnect, and iHeart Radio. The SV and SL trims are already including everything that comes inside the S version but will probably expand by adding some more premium equipment, like for instance multi-touch seven-inch display, voice recognition, SiriusXM satellite radio, navigation, and some more additional apps. The 2019 Nissan Leaf will simply expand what the current model has and will in that sense make the offer that much better.

Powertrain Changes

The powertrain of the 2019 Nissan Leaf may need to expand eve further than the last version. The previous car has been modified so it received a better battery capacity for expanded range. The battery changed from 24 kWh to 30 kWh and now expands the range of 107 miles on a single charge. But these changes were only applied for the SV and SL trims while the base S is retained the 24-kWh battery pack. The 2019 version may offer the same engine for all trims this time but it is more apparent that they simply enhance the power for all of them.

The previous model also made modifications which included a 80-kW AC synchronous motor, which has remained unchanged compared to before. All in all, it will helped the car produce a power output of 107 horsepower and 187 pound-feet of torque and with the better battery made it better and gave it much more range. The transmission choice is a single speed reducer one.

The innovations for the 2019 version of the Leaf will certainly expand the model’s range, power and capacity. Nissan is probably going to look for to develop a better powertrain which will suit the needs of the driver’s better.

2019 Nissan Leaf 0-60 mph Acceleration Gain

As far as acceleration goes for the 2019 Nissan Leaf might expand the ranges. But the stats have not changed for the last models. The car is currently able to accelerate in 10 seconds to speed up to 0-60 mph and also still has a top speed of 100 mph. Btu with the changes that the engine might go through the future models will probably shave off a few seconds of the speed up time.

2019 Nissan Leaf Fuel Economy and Consumption

The new 2019 Nissan Leaf will have to look for the improvement which the last model made. In fact, the new 30-kWh batter is 46 pounds heavier, which makes the models slightly less fuel efficient compared to before. The EPA stats measured numbers of 124 city, 101 highway, and 112 combined mpg fuel economy, for the SV and SL trims which are using the new but heavier battery are the stats for the current model. As far as the base S trim goes, it is the most fuel efficient of the bunch as the EPA stats remain the same at 126 city, 101 highway, and 114 combined mpg. They may look to reduce some weight in the future 2019 model and in that way help the fuel usage of the model.

2019 Nissan Leaf Dimensions and Trunk Size

The dimensions of the 2019 Nissan Leaf will probably be kept at the same level they are now. Since there was no update for the exterior made, the dimensions have been kept the same for the recent models. But the car managed a good job with the interior spacing so far as they managed to make a compact car feel as a mid-size one in terms of the interior spacing properties. The overall length of the car is 175.0 in. and a wheelbase of 106.3 in. with the width of 69.7 in. and height of 61.0 in. When it comes to the inside the front end includes headroom of 41.2 Inches, legroom 42.1 Inches hip room 51.7 Inches and shoulder room of 54.3 Inches. The rear end on the other hand has headroom of 37.3 Inches, legroom 33.3 Inches, hip room 50.0 Inches and finally shoulder room of 52.5 Inches. There are no information about the car changing the measurements and the model will look to change as less as possible for the future.

2019 Nissan Leaf Safety Specs

The 2019 Nissan Lear may boast with the same safety features and numbers as before. The safety is not a priority for this car as much as the others segments propose. But still it is valuable for the model to have a kind of an assortment to protect the people inside. The current model includes driver airbag, passenger airbag, side head airbag, rear head airbag as before and also adds Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control, and child safety locks. The NHTSA actually gives it a 4 star rating overall for safety but the IIHS gives it a “Good” rating in four of the five necessary categories with only one “Poor” grade rating in the small overlap front crash test. We shall see how much they deuced to upgrade and whether we managed to get a much safer car.

Rivaling Models from the Segment

When it comes to the segment and the rivals where the 2019 Nissan Leaf resides in, it is a segment which is still expanding and which is creating new and innovative features for its cars all the time. This is why the Leaf needs to be creative in the same sense. They cannot keep the same kind of specs for long the same way as they cannot afford to use the same kind of style. Either way, the vehicle will still be facing the models like the Chevrolet Volt and the Tesla Model S which will be unroll the welcoming mat once the release is stabled.
