We are finally getting potential glimpses of the 2018 BMW X2 model being released. This car has been in talks for a release since 2011, but it took four years for the car to be revealed as a concept version. This year we have also seen spy photos of a camouflaged X2 car doing test rounds and we feel that BMW is finally getting closer to the end of its production stage. These are great news as BMW will finally manage to extend its X lineup with this fabulous looking crossover model.
The 2018 BMW X2 will complete BMW’s lineup of X-badged SUVs which will eventually amount to seven models once the newly announced X7 is done. The X2 will actually be a much sleeker and coupe-like version of the X1 car and will have a similar yet unique style compared to other models from the lineup.
The X2 model is slated to use the same underpinnings as the second-generation X1 model which means that it will utilize the help of the UKL platform, also used by the Mini Cooper and the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer. The powertrain is supposed to be borrowed from the X1, at least for the US audiences.
When can we expect their Release Date for the 2018 BMW X2?
The new 2018 BMW X2 model has had a long journey, with the idea going way back to 2011. But the concept version was finally unveiled this year at the Paris Autos Show. This also means that the car will be available for sales within the upcoming year, somewhere mid-2017, and the US release date will follow, making the car available stateside by 2018.
What is the Price of the 2018 BMW X2 car?
The price rates still need to be determined for the 2018 BMW X2 model, but we can confidently say that they are going to higher than the current Q2 model. The Q2 model is priced €24,900, while the X1 is offered for a base MSRP of €30,800, which would mean that the 2018 X2 should be priced around €27,000 for the German customers, or somewhere between $29,000 and $31,000 for the US.
What will the Exterior Look Like?
After seeing the concept for the 2018 BMW X2 and the released photos of it, it is easy to determine how the new model will look like on the exterior. The new X2 model will take the same route as its previous BMW models and go for a sportier design. It will be a sportier coupe like version of the X1 model but it will not have a hunched roofline. The model will also exclude the quarter window that the X1 had and make the overhangs much shorter.
Being based on the X1, it will also inherit the same type of design language that this car sports. It also mixes things together by borrowing a lot of styling cues from its bigger brothers, the X3 and X5 respectively. The fascia is going to be near identical to those models, with the same type of a grille and sleek headlamps but with larger air intakes which result in a more aggressive look.
The rear end will be a bit different compared to the X1. It has a differently styled bumper with a shorter windscreen. The cluster has the same kind of configuration so it is perhaps safe to say that the taillights are going to be different. Finally, the turning signals are placed at the top and face towards the sides.
The pictures or renderings of the interior for the 2018 BMW X2 have not been made. This leaves us with a bit of a mystery but we can also state that the majority of the car will also be based on the new updates made for the X1 model. This means that this car will include the same type of a dashboard, “floating” infotainment display and new refined A/C vents.
Some of the standard features should be a seven-speaker audio system, a multi-function, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and cruise control. The seats are wrapped in cloth for the base model but higher trims get leather upholstery. Other offered equipment includes an 8.8-inch display, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic roof and many things more.
The new 2018 BMW X2 is supposed to get the same type of powertrain as their smallest crossover vehicle in the lineup. We predict the car being offered as both diesel and gasoline versions in three- and four-cylinder formats.
The European model should use the 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine which makes 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque and it will combine with a six-speed automatic and power FWD versions only. The second gasoline engine is the 2.0-liter four-banger, which makes 189 horsepower and 207 pound-feet in the sDrive20i and xDrive20i and offers 228 horses and 258 pound-fee in the xDrive25i ones.
The diesels variant is the 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine which is good enough to make 144 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. Also offered is the 2.0-liter four-pot, offered in three outputs, 148 horsepower and 243 pound-feet in the base, 187 horses and 295 pound-feet for the mid-range, and 228 horsepower and a whopping 332 pound-feet of twist for the top rated one.
The US audiences may hope to get a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine which gains an output of 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an AWD system.
0-60 mph Acceleration Ability
The US based 2018 BMW X2 has already been released with its acceleration specs. The new automobile will be able to speed up to 0-60 mph in 6.3 seconds for the X2 xDrive28i and have a top speed of 130 mph.
Fuel Economy Ratings
There are no indications for now on the fuel economy of the 2018 BMW X2 model. We suspect that they will be available once the release date is established and more testing is done, but for now we see it as completely favorable compared to the offer that they got going and the offer coming from the competition vehicles.
The new 2018 BMW X2 will transfer the safety equipment from its brethren cars. It will most likely use a similar setup seen in the X1 model and will probably take the entire package from there which has been updated for the latest version. More confirmation will come once the details for the inside of the vehicle have been revealed.
The dimensions for the 2018 BMW X2 have not yet been set. But there is a great possibility that this model might mirror the ones seen in the Q2 car. Since the model is basing so much on this and is essentially the same level of car when it comes to the evolution of models, we can say that the length might be close to 165.0 inches, wheelbase 102.1 inches, width 79.09 inches and height 59.37 inches, which are the dimensions of the Q2 model which will probably be transferred to the X2 car.
The new 2018 BMW X2 will not be left alone in the segment. Offering it a warm welcome are such cars as the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class models and also the Nissan Juke, which all have a great reputation in the US market already.
