2018 BMW X5

The time has come for the 2018 BMW X5 to appear as the makers in BMW always make a redesign after period of six years. The time has come for a new X5 to be made and so we were able to witness the appearance of the new spy photos. To be honest, the car is still missing a lot of its key elements but it is great news and there is plenty to talk about in the review for the newest BMW X5 car coming out.

BMW started making SUV cars only in 2000 and the BMW X5 was its first product. This model also helped BMW make a total of four crossover vehicles, three of them slotted below the X5 and one above it. Also the BMW X5 has gone through three different generation models since its ascension, the fist one being the 2000 model, the second one being spawned in 2006 and the last and current one from the 2012. The E70 came in 2006 while the F15 was the next generation model and was even better than the previous ones and got people excited even more for the brand.
There are many things that are rumored about this model and because we are still in the early stages of production, we have managed to get the most of it and devised an early review for the car. As it appears that the trend is being made and the announcement right, we are in for the fourth-generation model of the recognized brand now.

The spy photos which emerged about the future 2018 BMW X5 actually feature the car in its most basic form, or as some would like to call it the “bare bone” form. This means that a lot of it has been stripped down and that there is still a whole lot of things missing that we cannot see for the car. But luckily our expert reviewers got the needed information and will present it to you before the release date of the vehicle.

When is the Car Being Released?

As the many indications have stated, the 2018 BMW X5 is going to see the light of day in 2018. This is the way the redesigns and overhauls have come for the X5 model and they are not going to break their pattern now and change their formula. A mid-year release date is what we are hoping for but depending on the time of the production they are in now, we might find ourselves receiving a release early in the year. But being that they do not show a lot of the car here, it is still unfamiliar in which stage the vehicle is currently in. As time passes we hope to get some new spy photos which are going to help us determine the price of the car more correctly.

How Much will the Car Cost?

Of course the production for the price of the 2018 BMW X5 is that it is going to come at a larger price compared to now. Depending on the additions that are going to be made we are looking at least a 1,000 increase compared to the current lineup. The base version of the current BMW X5 has a price of $54,700 as base MSRP, and the top ranging xDrive 50i costs $71,599. Innovations are needed and even a facelift or a redesign are aimed at costing a bit more than its initial price. So we think that this model will come with a larger price tag and that owning the new car might not be as easy as before. Still it is one of the favorites for the market and will be a good choice and a great service.

What is the Exterior Design Going to Look Like?

Judging by the early released spy photos of the 2018 BMW X5 model, the car is going to significantly remodel the front end of it. There are a lot of elements which are covered and not exposed which only leads us to believe that these parts are going to be changed. But the kidney grille is going to remain as it is the staple of the company. Also a big part and a noticeable one is the change brought to the hood as a redesigned one and a longer one as well is expected to appear.

The side of the car feats a body line which is similar to the one seen on the current model and the same thing goes for the fender parts. A lower body line also appears as well and the doors are certainly going to be a part of the production model. The rear end is completely stylized and hidden as well so the information about it is scarce. Although, by the production level the car will certainly change its appearance in the back. The most obvious one being the rear lights redesign.

What are the Interior Changes?

So far, the interior of the 2018 BMW X5 is going to be updated with upgraded materials and features. There are going to be some very softer and luxurious additions made for the inside of the car and with leather seating and soft touches surfaces there are also going to be some modern gadgets and technological updates made.

You can also expect to see a different instrument cluster layout which is bound to change and there was a mention of moving the TFT display in favor of the traditional needle gauges, but so far nothing was confirmed. The infotainment screen is supposed to be thinner and also slightly larger.

The center console and the dash are going to incorporate some changes as well but nothing too extreme as it was noted. We are hoping that a gesture control system makes its debut here and that the model starts incorporating those soon. Finally, remote parking is also going to be added for US based models.

Engine Performance and Specs

Not officially confirmed yet, but as it appears from all the made rumors about the engine for the 2018 BMW X5, it will use a gasoline-burning, 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder. It does make it to be the chosen variant for the car it will come with 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. Another possible choice is the diesel-burning, 3.0-liter I-6 engine with an output of 55 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the X5 xDrive50i is possibly going to be equipped with a 4.4-liter V-8 engine that makes 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. If they do intend to incorporate the current lineup of engines, we expect them to come with expanded power and specs as well.

There are also rumors which state that the new 2018 BMW X5 is actually testing some other engine options with the one that we see here. The stripped down prototype might be a way for them to test out an engine choice or they could even develop a new one this way. The thing is that these things are kept as secretive as possible and we might only get a confirmation down the line once the release date is confirmed. But we also hope to hear some leaks which could also help with determining the price. All in all, we expect that they at least update the current lineup if nothing else.

0-60 mph Acceleration Specs and Top Speed

The acceleration rates still need to be released for the 2018 BMW X5 model. Compared to before the base level was able to accelerate to 0-60 mph in around six seconds. This rate will certainly be a bit better but we do not see it going under 6 seconds. The X5 xDrive50i made the same kind of performance in 4.7 seconds which will remain the same for the car. The stats are still very much subject to change and will probably change once they decide on the kind of engine. As we are expecting to get a stronger version and a larger engine it will be a suitable option to have for the X5 car. Generally speaking, we expect for the stats to improve.

Fuel Economy Characteristics

The car is going to address the fuel economy and the 2018 BMW X5 is going to expand the rates when it comes to the consumption. But as the EPA stats are not official as of yet we can only assume that the X5 sDrive35i is going to make a bit better than the 18 mpg city, 25 highway, 21 combined from last year. Also the xDrive model had an EPA rating of 18/24/20 mpg which they are trying to improve. But the plug-in hybrid option will be the best one and will see to singlehandedly shape up the spending of fuel. One of the biggest expectations for the X5 is that they introduce improvements related to the fuel economy. It is something that the fans have been expecting to get and with the latest technological features that the vehicles have it would not be unusual for us to get a car which improves upon its fuel consumption stats.

No dimensions expansion has been met for the 2018 BMW X5 so far. The car is going to retain the dimensions that it has now. The X5 has not grown over the years and the makers of the car rarely do incorporate some dimensions changes. In our opinions the car should not be expanded and can remain this way as it does offer great interior comfort so far. The current measurements stand at a total length of 193.2 in for the car, while the wheelbase is 115.5 in. The width is measured at 76.3 in while the height is 69.4 in. As for the inside, the passenger volume is kept to 103 cu ft and the cargo bay offers a compartment of 34 cu ft. As you can see the measures are pretty good for this car and will sustain even the new shoppers of this brand. The spy photos actually do not show the car growing at all and it is another confirmation that we are not going to get any dimension expansions.

Safety Specs and Features

The X5 brand has always been known for its safety and the car is going to remain the same for its 2018 BMW X5 version. The car will carry over a lot of active safety systems and include some advanced ones as well. Air bags, stability control systems, and parking assistants are the usual ones and it even comes with a standard rearview camera as well. Based in the safety scores the car was given a “Good” with the basic specs and “Superior” with the advanced ones by the IIHS. This is going to continue with the 2018 as they are preparing to do more of the same.

Rivals List

A great car like the 2018 BMW X5 is supposed to be is going to be affected by some stellar competition as well. The car which is prominently seen as the closes standout model is the Audi Q7 which will also get an overhaul. But some other cars to keep an eye out include the Cadillac Escalade, Porsche Cayenne and Lexus GX460 which are competing in the segment.

There is still so much that we cannot conclude here and it is pretty hard to really say how the 2018 BMW X5 might fare against the competing models It is true that the vehicle is making a comeback with this kind of a facelift or a redesign, but we are still in the early stages so a lot of conclusions will be drawn sometimes in the future. The vehicle is supposed to do well and we’re fairly confident that eth people from BMW know what they are doing.

As far as the competition goes, the sales numbers will be affected in a way as they always are once a Bimmer enters the stage. We hope to get a closer look at the rates within the upcoming period which will help us determine the real value of the newest X5 model.
