We have been treated with some new information for the latest 2018 Dodge Avenger car. We were really not sure if this was to come as the model was last seen in 2013 when the last update was incorporated. But as things go, they are planning of adding something new and updating the vehicle. Unfortunately, we do not see many new things going on here. The current list of updates is scarce at best and leaves a lot to the imagination.
Dodge brought its Avenger car for the first time to the North American market in 1995 as a two-door coupe model. It went on to be produced all the way till 2000 when it was replaced by the Stratus coupe. But the Avenger was brought back in 2007 but this time as a sedan. The first update was made in 2011 with its first major overhaul brought in 2013. Now it’s time for another update.
Based on the currently released spy photos the model will not change so much and we are happy to learn that it will retain all the safety specs which were used before. It will still come in the same SE, SXT and the R/T trims. But a specific Dodge Avenger Blacktop Edition will be available with added trimmings for all of those people who want a bit more for their car.
Here is what we were able to find out about the 2018 Dodge Avenger in the wake of its release date and have put in our review.
When is the Release Date Expected for the 2018 Dodge Avenger?
There have not been many pieces of information disposed about the release date of the 2018 Dodge Avenger. In fact this is something that can be still debated but as things are going now it will probably be released by the start of 2018 model year. We can be so lucky if we get it by the end of 2017.
What is the Expected Price?
The prices for the 2018 Dodge Avenger car will probably be similar to what we have offered right now, but with a miniscule rise. The base version costs $19,395 and we expect the new 2018 SE version to be similar. It also goes for the SXT currently priced $22,395 and R/T offered for $25,695.
Exterior Updates for the 2018 Dodge Avenger
As far as we can see now, the 2018 Dodge Avenger will incorporate many of the details already established in the previous version. The 2013 introduced many parts which will be kept here and they see it as a great designer’s choice made so far. We can discern that the front fascia is going to be revised a bit and we are probably expecting a chrome grille in the front. The rear end will probably get some revisions done as well and perhaps the standard ones are the added LED taillights but we are also aiming at dual exhausts also used for this version of the car.
There are going to be choices of eight exterior colors which the customers can chose from and customize their vehicle based on their needs and we also expect a slew of standard pieces of equipment for the new 2018 Avenger. These will probably be Tinted Glass Windows, LED Tail Lamps, Power Exterior Mirrors, Security Alarm, Body-Color Door Handles, etc.
What can we expect on the Inside of the 2018 Dodge Avenger?
We are actually expecting to see all of the usual features for a family car inside the 2018 Dodge Avenger. So do not expect any sporty seats but they will probably work on making them comfortable. This means softer materials and added support as well. The current dashboard will probably be transferred to the 2018 version of the Dodge Avenger which means that we might still see the basic one with silver bits and surrounding air vents and gauges.
We also expect a slew of interior features which might include premium interior with soft-touch surfaces, laminated front windshield and front-row side glass, power lock, power mirrors, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, fold flat front passenger seat and 60/40 rear seat with trunk pass through.
Multiple Powertrain Options
There are still going to be only two engine options even for the future 2018 Dodge Avenger. This has already been confirmed as they are not planning of adding anything special for now in order to update the performance. This includes the 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine as a base version appearing for the SE trims and creating 173 horsepower. The stronger one which is provided for the higher trims is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and this one is able to create 283 horsepower. There are also going to be two transmissions available, the standard six-speed manual or an optional a four-speed automatic.
0-60 mph Information
With the current setup, we estimate that the acceleration for the 2018 Dodge Avenger will not change drastically. So we can predict a steady acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in about 8 seconds time while the top speed will remain at 115 mph.
Unchanged Fuel Economy
If the engines for the 2018 Dodge Avenger do not change so will not the fuel economy. The EPA stats remain at 20 mpg city and 31 mpg on the highway with the manual transmission and the four-banger. The automatic one makes the stats 21 mpg city and 29 mph highway. The bigger V-6 engine allows the 2018 Avenger to gain EPA stats which say 19 mpg city and 29 mpg highway.
Dimensions and Size Changes
Well in fact there are not going to be any dimension changes made to the 2018 Dodge Avenger. As things seem for now the current look is a proven one and we do not see it changing or expanding further for now. The model will retain a length of 192.6 inches, height 58.4 inches and width 72.8 inches and the wheelbase will also remain at 108.9 inches. The passenger volume will probably come to 100.2 cubic-feet while the cargo bay will give us 13.5 cubic-feet.
The newest 2018 Dodge Avenger will inherit the safety ability of the previous incarnations of the car. This brand has managed to earn an IIHS “Top Safety Pick” for a few times now and is what helps the passengers and the drivers feel safe and secure in this car. It also expands the quality of it. As far as for your advanced pieces of equipment it comes with multi-stage front passenger air bags, front seat side air bags, and electronic stability control with electronic traction control, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, supplemental side curtain air bags and LATCH child seat anchor system. It is more than enough to earn it another accolade for safety this year.
Competitors in the Segment
With the return of the 2018 Dodge Avenger, we do not see things changing in terms of their competition. It will probably be the same as the closest cars which can provide similar stats and output rates are the Mazda 6 and Kia Optima models.
