New Luxury but Family Orientated 2018 Lexus NX

Making an update to the 2018 Lexus NX will bring forth some good applications for the car. Great styling and a turbocharged powertrain are only the openers for the NX model, but Lexus has made this car into a very luxurious and family orientated vehicle, making this crossover model one of the more well-rounded models on the market.

The Lexus NX is the first compact crossover vehicle which the brand has introduced. This update will not feature that much for the car as it is still young. Most of the design is kept the same as before. This is also the first utility vehicle which has been given the Lexus design language style which latter on went to become a staple of the Lexus line of cars.

The model is going to make its debut pretty soon and we can finally get more than just the pictures of the car. An update was actually not expected so soon to arrive since the car has been on the market for only two years, but in a busy segment like the compact crossover is one needs to keep up.

When is the Potential Release Date of the 2018 Lexus NX?

It is expected for the updated version of the 2018 Lexus NX to arrive by the end of the year. People will already be able to order and purchase this car in 2017 as the release date will not wait for next year. We are looking forward to this model hitting the market in a big fashion.

What could the Price be?

The price of the 2018 Lexus NX has not been given officially yet, but we do not expect to see a large increase in fact. It appears that we are looking at a similar price to the 36,260 USD of the current model. We are happy to say that the price is a favorable one.

A Striking Design Language

The 2018 Lexus NX car will still bare the striking language design of the previous model. Before this design was introduced there was not much going on for the Lexus models all-together, but when the NX hit the market it quickly changed the face of Lexus all on its own. The design of the car is pretty engaging and manages to combine sharp creases and pointed shapes and create a fastback car and result in a great crossover utility car.

The newest version will keep most of its original look with only some refreshes here and there. There are going to be sharp crease angles from the base to the rear. There is also a deep indentation in the door which forms an asymmetrical sill in the base of the door. The front end still has the signature Lexus spindle grille and combines with a softly rising hoodline which goes above it. On the sides, there are some swept-back headlights with L-shaped LED daytime running lights.

A bit of a Departure on the Inside

The interior of the 2018 Lexus NX actually looks a bit different in terms of its design. It is actually much more toned down compared to the outside of the car. The colors and the materials feature an usual Lexus type of a design and pallet, featuring dark grays, muted silvers, and matte wood grains. The metallic accents are a nice contrast to the softly trimmed upholstery which also manages to complement the large gauges at the same time.

The design of the dash is still long and angled, with a protruding console which forms a Z-shape when viewing it from the side. The dashboard has a much sportier feel to it and thus it all results in a cockpit like design. Additionally, there is enough space for a compact car and it features the usual amount of comfort.

Two Powertrain Options

With the update made to the 2018 Lexus NX we are still going to have two powertrain options available. The first one being the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine which would be used in the NX 200t and enabling an output of 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It can also combine with a 6-speed automatic transmission enabling both front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive as optional.

The second engine is going to be used under the hood of the NX 300h model. It is a 154-hp 2.5-liter inline-4 engine paired with a Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The total output for this combination is supposed to amount to 194 hp. All-wheel drive also comes as optional for the hybrid NX model.

0-60 mph and Top Speed

When it comes to the performance of the 2018 Lexus NX, the specs will not change overtly. They will amount to an acceleration of 8.8 seconds to reach 0-60 mph with a top speed of 116 mph. These stats are transferred unchanged for the newest 2018 NX car.

Can We Expect an Improvement in Fuel Economy?

By opting for a turbocharged version and ousting the V-6 one, the 2018 Lexus NX will manage better fuel economy stats. This is pretty good for the segment and comes as an expected choice. The 200t trim will have an EPA rating of 22 mpg city, 28 highway, 25 combined, while the AWD version sacrifices 1 mpg for the combined rating. The hybrid 300h consumes 35/31/33 mpg for front drive and 33/30/32 mpg for all-wheel drive.

Compared to the original model, the 2018 Lexus NX will not move an inch. We are expecting the same size of the car as any dimensional changes were not expected. The length of the car amounts to 182.3 inches, the wheelbase is 104.7 inches, the height is 64.8 inches and the width is 73.6 inches. This also provides an interior passenger volume of 97-98 cu ft and a cargo capacity of 17-18 cu ft.

Safety Scores

Since the new 2018 Lexus NX has not been tested, the safety scores will simply be transferred for this new model. But the car already had some great safety specs, it boasts an excellent assortment of safety equipment with eight airbags as standard: front and side bags for the two front-seat passengers, side-curtain airbags to cover the front and rear side windows, as well as a driver’s knee airbag and a new front-seat passenger cushion airbag. The IIHS has given it a Top Safety Pick+ and gave it a Good score for overall categories while the NHTSA has scored with with 5 stars across the board. The model will also add advanced pieces of technology like frontal-collision warning system and lane-departure warning and automatic high beams.

Rivals in the Segment

The newest 2018 Lexus NX will arrive in a packed segment where there are going to be other models waiting for it. But thanks to the brand name and a far more aggressive design than what the competition has to bring, we are looking at a potentially great feat of the NX against such competing moles. The competition includes the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Cadillac SRX, and Volvo XC60.

2018 Lexus NX Release Date, Review and Specs

The latest update states that a new lineup of 2018 Lexus NX models is being released for this year. This news was made available recently at the expo of Toyota North America, where some other models were showcased and although they kind of a tried to put things into dark it was obvious that the models which were tightly shown were the 200t and the 300h which are going to be part of the lineup. Also the X in their names gave us the last clue for the puzzle as it was understandable that these were SUV cars that we are going to get this year.

The plan is to put the NX brand under the Lexus RX as they are planning to release it next year when the release date is largely expected to be. The news also state that the NX 200t will be a gasoline version which is going to sport a turbocharged engine while an NX 300h version is also in the mix as Lexus is braking out its Atkinson cycle hybrid engine for the hybrid version of this car.

The next 2018 Lexus NX lineup is scheduled to make an appearance for the first time at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition which is going to be the first real unveiling after the teaser brought by the previous showcasing or many teaser pictures that were also given. This is a warm up as we are going to be treated by the while lineup next year when the car officially becomes available for sale.

Available trims

As we mentioned there are going to be several models for the 2018 Lexus NX released which are going to include some surprising additions. So besides the base version we are going to get the already mentioned gasoline version, NX 200t and the hybrid powertrain one NX 300h. The F Sport version has also been mentioned at times but still no confirmation about this one. It can perhaps arrive late into the mix or it may get a completely different release date altogether coming a little bit after the initial offers.

The 2018 Lexus NX is actually enabling the comeback of Lexus to the luxury crossover segment with quite a bit of style. It more than sets the precedent of having a good looking car whcih is going to turn heads and attracts lots of attention. The front end as always features a massive spindle grille to its front which sits well for the entire model. The body lines have been grafted incredibly well while the air intakes positioned to the sides of the grille make a sporty addition to the overall design. The new additions also include the design of the wheels and also the headlamps which add checkmark LED accents as well.

The side profile of the car is pretty sexy looking as well. It features a swooping roofline, wide rear arches, some nice lower body sculpturing and it all results in a great new design for the NX. The rear end also sees the addition of new taillights as the wraparound design is being implemented adding to the flamboyant look of the car. The rear end could have actually added more to it as they perhaps run out of ideas when they got to the back. The design of the bumper and the exhaust pipes truly does not fit well here and it would do well for the model to add a different one in the future.

The interior touches of the 2018 Lexus NX are absolutely gorgeous to look at. The cabin fits a perfect combination of hard-metal accents and soft-touch materials and result in a perfect setting for each driver and passenger of this car. It does manage to look both aggressive and luxurious at the same time brining the best of both worlds together. The center stack is perhaps the best part of the redesign particularly the silver colors which were added now. There are also some silver highlights placed on the dash and door panels and it goes very well together with the overall concept. There are going to be some woodgrain accents available and contrastive stitching as well given as optional.

The tech upgrades add a Human Machine Interface and an iPad-like touchscreen. These additions not only upgrade the tech of the car but they also make sure that you are able to use the best of the modern technology this car has to offer you. The interior spacing is pretty good as it has  73.4 cubic feet which is enough for accommodating five people at the same time. The seating was a major issue with this update and it gives the driver a connected-to-the-car with increased headroom as well.

As for the safety concerns of the 2018 Lexus NX, you shouldn’t be concerned for them at all. The model features a slew of both active and passive safety systems making the model a lot better than it was before. Some of the additions that you get include Blind Spot Monitoring, ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Backup Camera with Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Brake Assist as well. The passive features include a standard set of eight airbags, whcih amount to front, side and knee airbags as well. The overall safety rating is five starts given by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The car also scores four stars of the frotn driver and passenger crash ratings while eh side crash rating is five stars. Finally, roller risk comes at four stars as well. All in all. the Lexus NX 2018 is going to treat you well if you treat it well and will protcet you in dire situations.

Engine specs

Based on the trim level the 2018 Lexus NX is going to come with different engine variations. The base version is going to be the naturally aspirated, 2.0-liter engine. The second NX 200t model is going to add an all-new, turbocharged 2.0-liter engine which can provide  225 horsepower. Finally the NX 300h is combining the 2.5-liter hybrid drivetrain  that in total provides 80 horsepower. All of the three engine variants are featured with CVT and also the AWD system comes as an optional offer. Unfortunately all other specs about the engines have still to be released but we are keeping a close eye on it and will provide you with an update.
