Making an update to the 2018 Lexus NX will bring forth some good applications for the car. Great styling and a turbocharged powertrain are only the openers for the NX model, but Lexus has made this car into a very luxurious and family orientated vehicle, making this crossover model one of the more well-rounded models on the market.
The Lexus NX is the first compact crossover vehicle which the brand has introduced. This update will not feature that much for the car as it is still young. Most of the design is kept the same as before. This is also the first utility vehicle which has been given the Lexus design language style which latter on went to become a staple of the Lexus line of cars.
The model is going to make its debut pretty soon and we can finally get more than just the pictures of the car. An update was actually not expected so soon to arrive since the car has been on the market for only two years, but in a busy segment like the compact crossover is one needs to keep up.
When is the Potential Release Date of the 2018 Lexus NX?
It is expected for the updated version of the 2018 Lexus NX to arrive by the end of the year. People will already be able to order and purchase this car in 2017 as the release date will not wait for next year. We are looking forward to this model hitting the market in a big fashion.
What could the Price be?
The price of the 2018 Lexus NX has not been given officially yet, but we do not expect to see a large increase in fact. It appears that we are looking at a similar price to the 36,260 USD of the current model. We are happy to say that the price is a favorable one.
A Striking Design Language
The 2018 Lexus NX car will still bare the striking language design of the previous model. Before this design was introduced there was not much going on for the Lexus models all-together, but when the NX hit the market it quickly changed the face of Lexus all on its own. The design of the car is pretty engaging and manages to combine sharp creases and pointed shapes and create a fastback car and result in a great crossover utility car.
The newest version will keep most of its original look with only some refreshes here and there. There are going to be sharp crease angles from the base to the rear. There is also a deep indentation in the door which forms an asymmetrical sill in the base of the door. The front end still has the signature Lexus spindle grille and combines with a softly rising hoodline which goes above it. On the sides, there are some swept-back headlights with L-shaped LED daytime running lights.
A bit of a Departure on the Inside
The interior of the 2018 Lexus NX actually looks a bit different in terms of its design. It is actually much more toned down compared to the outside of the car. The colors and the materials feature an usual Lexus type of a design and pallet, featuring dark grays, muted silvers, and matte wood grains. The metallic accents are a nice contrast to the softly trimmed upholstery which also manages to complement the large gauges at the same time.
The design of the dash is still long and angled, with a protruding console which forms a Z-shape when viewing it from the side. The dashboard has a much sportier feel to it and thus it all results in a cockpit like design. Additionally, there is enough space for a compact car and it features the usual amount of comfort.
Two Powertrain Options
With the update made to the 2018 Lexus NX we are still going to have two powertrain options available. The first one being the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine which would be used in the NX 200t and enabling an output of 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It can also combine with a 6-speed automatic transmission enabling both front-wheel drive as standard and all-wheel drive as optional.
The second engine is going to be used under the hood of the NX 300h model. It is a 154-hp 2.5-liter inline-4 engine paired with a Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive system. The total output for this combination is supposed to amount to 194 hp. All-wheel drive also comes as optional for the hybrid NX model.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
When it comes to the performance of the 2018 Lexus NX, the specs will not change overtly. They will amount to an acceleration of 8.8 seconds to reach 0-60 mph with a top speed of 116 mph. These stats are transferred unchanged for the newest 2018 NX car.
Can We Expect an Improvement in Fuel Economy?
By opting for a turbocharged version and ousting the V-6 one, the 2018 Lexus NX will manage better fuel economy stats. This is pretty good for the segment and comes as an expected choice. The 200t trim will have an EPA rating of 22 mpg city, 28 highway, 25 combined, while the AWD version sacrifices 1 mpg for the combined rating. The hybrid 300h consumes 35/31/33 mpg for front drive and 33/30/32 mpg for all-wheel drive.
Compared to the original model, the 2018 Lexus NX will not move an inch. We are expecting the same size of the car as any dimensional changes were not expected. The length of the car amounts to 182.3 inches, the wheelbase is 104.7 inches, the height is 64.8 inches and the width is 73.6 inches. This also provides an interior passenger volume of 97-98 cu ft and a cargo capacity of 17-18 cu ft.
Since the new 2018 Lexus NX has not been tested, the safety scores will simply be transferred for this new model. But the car already had some great safety specs, it boasts an excellent assortment of safety equipment with eight airbags as standard: front and side bags for the two front-seat passengers, side-curtain airbags to cover the front and rear side windows, as well as a driver’s knee airbag and a new front-seat passenger cushion airbag. The IIHS has given it a Top Safety Pick+ and gave it a Good score for overall categories while the NHTSA has scored with with 5 stars across the board. The model will also add advanced pieces of technology like frontal-collision warning system and lane-departure warning and automatic high beams.
Rivals in the Segment
The newest 2018 Lexus NX will arrive in a packed segment where there are going to be other models waiting for it. But thanks to the brand name and a far more aggressive design than what the competition has to bring, we are looking at a potentially great feat of the NX against such competing moles. The competition includes the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Cadillac SRX, and Volvo XC60.
