The aging sports car will be revised through the 2018 Subaru BRZ incarnation. This model has been a joint effort made by Subaru and Toyota in an attempt to develop a rear-wheel sports car. The cars that they managed to produce were the GT86 and the BRZ model. But since then they have not taken care of the model so much so it was due time for the brand to get some novelties and get it back into the running.
The cars will get a significant reshaping for this updated version. The base model will get some pretty nice new looking details while its Limited line will get advanced changes to its design. But besides the exterior the inside has also been shaping up nicely. The luxury-looking interior has received some very comfortable details with a slew of features which will make it a much suitable model compared to before.
This is only a taste which the 2018 Subaru BRZ has to offer, but there is so much more that can happen. Our review will help you with the details so you learn what the model will look like for the future. The pictures have been available for some time and Subaru has announced that they are preparing for a release date in 2017. The price has also already been made available so it leads us to believe that the car is close.
When can we expect the Release Date for the 2018 Subaru BRZ?
The new 2018 Subaru BRZ has been predicated for a mid-2017 or late-2017 release. For now the model has not established the details about its release date but we are looking at a potential showcasing pretty soon. Since all the detail about the car are mostly already available it is highly believable that we are going to see the model pretty soon.
What is the Price for the 2018 Subaru BRZ?
The price listing for the 2018 Subaru BRZ and all of its trims is already available. There are three versions of the car offered, with the 2.0 Premium car being the entry-level model which comes at a price of $25,495. The next in line is the 2.0 Limited which can come either at $27,645 or $28,745, depending on the transmission choice. Finally, the priciest one is the 2.0 Series Yellow which is a limited edition model and it costs $29,695.
What will The Exterior Updates be?
Although the 2018 Subaru BRZ has been refreshed, it does not change overtly from the current look. The car has gained some new details for the exterior and the model does not go beyond its current form too much. The front end features the same hood and grille designs with the only changes made to the headlights and the front fascia. Different corner vents have been added to the latter part while the former gets new LEDs.
The same thing goes for the sides and the rear part of the car. Perhaps the most noticeable change is the addition of the 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels. In the back end, we have body-color rear spoiler with full-LED rear taillights. The same kind of side skirts remain with a diffuser and all other exterior parts. Even with us expecting a more aggressive approach with this version, they are saving it for the future models that are to come. The most of the changes missed here will probably be seen on the upcoming next-generation car.
Although the inside of the 2018 Subaru BRZ features a lot of the same as last year, there are certain changes to get excited about. The base trim stays mostly the same style wise, but the Premium and Limited trims have gotten some nice and exclusive updates. These include a simulated leather insert with red stitching made for the dash which matches the rest of the interior. Premium models get a leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching and Bluetooth controls.
The Limited also gets Alcantara seat inserts and simulated leather with red stitching. It also now has a 4.2-inch color display which serves as the driver information system. The instrument cluster visor is wrapped in simulated leather while there is also a BRZ logo embroidered in red in the back of both front seats.
The changes are limited here but frankly speaking we did not face a bad cabin to begin with. The BRZ possess perhaps a better cabin compared to most other rivals and we felt that it already serves its purpose well hence the minimal changes employed.
Powertrain and Engine Specs
The powertrain is where the 2018 Subaru BRZ has changed the most. The 2.0-liter Boxer engine has been modified a bit and now thanks to the work put in by the engineers they managed to increase friction reduction. Also modified are the redesigned camshaft, new cylinder heads and new valves. This results with an output increase which amounts to 205 horsepower and 156 pound-feet in total, while model that have a six-speed automatic transmission have an output of 200 ponies and 151 pound-feet of twist.
0-60 mph Ability
The specs for the 2018 Subaru BRZ have not been released entirely, but we do have some specifications available. Automatic-equipped models will have an acceleration ability of 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 143 mph. Models using a six-speed manual transmission will spring to 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds and will also have a top speed of 141 mph.
Fuel Economy Specifications
The new specs for the fuel economy of the 2018 Subaru BRZ have not been issued for now. But we see them improving slightly with other stats of the car. The previous ones amounted to 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined with the manual transmission while the automatic one had an EPA rating of 24/33/27 mpg. The model has done great job with its powertrain so the fuel economy is something that will probably gain some improvements as well.
Dimensions and Size
The dimensions of the 2018 Subaru BRZ will not change. The model is going to be 166.7 inches long, with the wheelbase of 101.2 inches, height 50.6 inches and width 69.9 inches. The interior passenger volume still offers 80 cu ft and a cargo bay of 7 cu ft which have not improved but really do not have to as the model comes with good size numbers already.
The new 2018 Subaru BRZ will appoint several standard forms of protection. One of them is Subaru’s ring-shaped reinforcement body structure which helps every Subaru product to protect their passengers and make it much safer for the people inside. All the seats will have three-point seatbelts, seatbelt pretensions and seatbelt force limiters. Some forms of equipment to protect the people riding will include Subaru’s advanced frontal airbag system with dual-stage deployment and front side pelvis/torso airbags, and side curtain airbags. All trims have stability control and five-mode traction control while Premium models are equipped with hill start assist and a rearview camera while the Limited ones have a security system.
As part of the lineup that the 2018 Subaru BRZ will be facing, there are many established vehicles in the market. The cars that are seen in the market will be great rivals for the BRZ. The ones to consider the most are the Mazda MX-5 Miata and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
