It has been a struggling time for the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta model recently. As a brand, Alfa Romeo is struggling as a whole and has not managed to bring anything that would catch the attention of many fans out there. But the company has sure decided to give it their best and still offer an update for the Giulietta car. But sadly, their best does not look like enough. They are trying to make ends meet and have decided to change the face of the vehicle a little bit to raise its sales and potential. Sadly we would rather wait for the next-generation model to come or even go for an older version than to take this one into account.
The history of the Giulietta car has always been bumpy. It started off in 1965 and lasted until 1977 when the car was canceled and its production stopped for the first time. After that, they started making the Giulietta type 116, which itself had a fine stint but was ultimately canceled as well in 1985. This time the model had a much longer brake and Alfa Romeo only decided to revive it in 2010 as Type 940. During this period the model received one facelift which came in 2016. Although it was not a big one, the second facelift comes now and will add even fewer changes that initially thought there would be.
The 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta is going to receive updates in the form of changing the face of the car a bit. The front end will have the most changes made to it but they are all a bit bland and do not seem exciting at all. They have not shifted things around on the inside as well as they mainly added some changes to the infotainment system, keeping the majority of the car intact. The engine lineup is transferred completely, but with one novelty, a new 1.6-liter unit has been added to the roster of already present engines.
A lot of people have already expected the next-generation Giulietta to come, but it appears that we are going to wait for it a bit longer. The competition already has an advantage compared to the model and they are only growing stronger and stronger with every passing moment. The Alfa Romeo brand may be revived, but they are not going to do it with the Giulietta. They tried with the Giulia, but the update is now officially delayed as they ran into problems on their own. So this is the perfect example of the struggles that the company has been facing in recent times.
As the release date was announced it leaves us with the expectations that we wish to have about this model, but we give you the truth about the update in our review.
When is the Release Date for the upcoming 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta?
The updated version of the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta is supposed to keep the model fresh until the next-generation model comes. We are assuming that they know what they are doing and that they are saving the best for last. Or that they want to surprise us with an offer which will give us more for the next generation. This is why the latest update is so bland and it will come a lot quicker than your regular bigger release. They are pitting the model to already be out by the beginning of next year. It is still being labeled as a 2019 version but it will most certainly come out within the start of 2021. The sales will determine the popularity of the car but we can already guess it.
What is the Price Going to be?
We have been able to find out the price of the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta, as it has already been released in Europe. The model will be sold there for about £18,450. This is almost an unchanged figure compared to the previous model, and at least that part of the car has remained satisfactory. The price is not as expensive nor too high to avert the audience but it is still the comprehensive kind of price for a vehicle of this kind and brand. When transferred to the American market the price of the 2019 Giulietta is going to be closer to $25,760. The price rating will be announced shortly, is that the release date is so near ad we are hoping to see it really soon as we expect to get the model fast. Being that the pricing is similar to before it will not stem too far from the rivals.
A Very Small Update Design Wise
The latest updated version of the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta is not going to bring us anything spectacular for the brand. Some people have demanded and expected to get so much more, but in fact, we got very little. The aesthetic updates which were given are very much lack lustered and many of the details are perhaps saved for a much bigger and better change which can come with the next-generation model.
The front end of the car gets the most of the changes. It adds a different kind of an Alfa Romeo shield to the front of the vehicle and places it across a new honeycomb grille. The grille will now have a horizontal layout compared to the last time. The same kind of a honeycomb grill is set on the bumper and there are added black inserts there which also amok the character of the car a lot sportier. The rear end is almost identical to the last version of the Giulietta. The only change made here is the very mild reshaping of the bumper which you can hardly notice and an oblique tailpipe which we use this time. Also, new alloy rims are a part of the given update.
There are some other features and additions made as well. These include red front bumper inserts, glossy anthracite accents seen on the mirror caps and carbon headlamps. There are also new handles and foglamp surrounds, but these kinds of changes are saved for the Veloce trim only. Everything else is mostly a carryover from the current Giulietta. Alfa Romeo has introduced its newest design language but it appears that they have decided against using it here. They may have made a mistake as it could have been an upgrade for the vehicle if they decided to do it.
Inside the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta
They have not done a much better job on the inside of the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta. The only major update is an improved infotainment system, which some people would say is enough but in our opinion, the car deserves a lot more. The model will now include a five- or 6.5-inch touchscreen and also add Bluetooth connectivity that you can use for audio streaming. There is also a new Uconnect LIVE services which you can use to stream music and with Deezer and TuneIn, or get the latest news via Reuters, while navigation is provided by TomTom LIVE. There are specifically added Performance services, which are added so you can measure the performance of your car when you want to.
Besides this, there are some minor nips and tucks done which includes upgraded leather and added Alcantara for the sports seats which have red stitching. The dashboard has a carbon surround and within the Veloce trims, there is some added for the door panels. The base trim and the super version will have the matte black dashboard while the Super will also add black fabric “cannelloni” seats. The Lusso pack will make the height-adjustable leather seats and armrests and some an aluminum kick plate. As you can see the upper trims get more fun added to them than the actual base car, which ends up with mostly nothing special for its offer.
Drivetrain Optison for the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta
It was actually not really surprising when the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta was announced with the same kind of engine lineup as before. But, everything is not the same as it was before as the new line of engines is going to be stronger and also have better fuel economy as well as thinking green as they made lesser gas emissions as well. The new engine added is the 1.6-liter JTDm which makes 118 horsepower (or 120 PS) and 236 pound-feet of torque (or 320 Nm. This engine is going to be matted and combined with an Alfa’s TCT transmission.
The alternative is a more powerful offer that comes in the form of a 2.0-liter JTDm turbodiesel. Depending on the variant, this engine can either make 148 hp or 173 horsepower. The gasoline choices include a 1.4-liter Turbo Petrol with 118 horsepower, the 1.4-liter Turbo Multiair making either 148 hp or 168 horsepower and the top version the 1.75-liter Turbo Petrol making 237 hp. Additionally, the 2019 Giulietta is going to be offered with a bi-fuel 1.4-liter TB making 118 horsepower.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
With the latest improvements made for the line of 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta engines, the model is going to improve its acceleration. The added power will gain the capability of speeding to 60 mph from a standstill possible in around 7 seconds, while the vehicle is going to have a top speed of 130 mph as well. As far as the newly added engine, its specs come to 10.2 seconds and an improved CO2 per km of 99 grams.
Somewhat Improved Fuel Efficiency
The newest ratings and fuel economy specifications of the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta and the American market have not been made. But some estimations have been announced within the European versions which says it consumes 3.8 liters of fuel for each 100 km. This is an improvement which the previous model had and it owes to the recent additions made for the powertrains. If we are to look at a lifeline of the model this can probably be it as the model helps improve the consumption of fuel this way.
2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Size and Dimensions
The size of the updated 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta is not going to change. Being that this is already a mild update, it would be hard-pressed for them to actually make modifications in the size of the car. The vehicle will simply transfer everything so far and the car is still 4,351mm long, with a wheelbase of 2,634mm, width 1,798mm and height 1,465mm. It still gives the vehicle enough interior spacing and allows it to be as balanced as possible.
What about the Safety?
If the exterior update of the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta was not disappointing for you, then this one will certainly be. The vehicle is not going to add any specific modifications when comes to the safety of the car. They are simply using the same kind of offer and equipment that were present in the outgoing model and they are going to update the softer a bit in order to meet the modern standards. Everything else is pretty much the same and the vehicle will have the same kind of equipment. This is certainly not what we expected, but generally speaking, the whole 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta is not what we expected to get.
Rivaling Models and Competition
The market has been developing during the absence of the 2019 Alfa Romeo Giulietta model. While they were planning their next step, the competition took their time and managed to establish itself as one of the more prolific models in the market. Vehicles that the Giulietta is going to face mostly include the Ford Focus and the 2021 Volkswagen Golf, and are much more popular models in the segment. The scarce update which the Giulietta brings is probably not enough for the brand to get what it needs. The vehicles are going to get a better kind of competition once a new generation model is made, but at this point, the market is going to be dominated by the usual cars.
