The new 2019 Ford F-150 has been confirmed with it appearing at the latest Detroit Auto Show. The pickup truck is perhaps the crown jewel of the Ford array of vehicles so it is only natural that they are trying to keep it in shape and that they are giving it so much attention. But the current model is not really old, it only debuted in 2015 and is still in the top of the selling lists. So why updated the F-150 so soon?
Well Ford is hard-pressed to keep its fans happy and to give them what they want. Also they are always ready to gain a leg up on the competition and advance in front. With the current model that have already made great strides so they are trying to knock the competition out of the park with yet another revision of the F-150 with its 2019 release.
The vehicle will gain certain updates which will see the front end and the back part of the car revised, while keeping the middle almost intact. But what is greatly expected is that the slew of engines that F-150 usually offers gets to be updated. For now they are promising us more power and better fuel economy, it is certainly something worth noting for the upcoming vehicle.
Now when we have all our facts straight lets analyze them and see how the 2019 Ford F-150 will look in our review and hope for a quick release date.
When is the Release Date of the 2019 Ford F-150 set?
After making its debut in Detroit the 2019 Ford F-150 has been confirmed to be released within this year. The release date has not been officially set but we are happy to learn that we are going to see it before 2019, so expect to see the pickup truck for sale in the end of 2017.
What do we Know about the Price?
A price influx is very much expected for the 2019 Ford F-150. Not only this vehicle, but all vehicles across the segment and the industry have been raising their prices. The F-150 will be one of those which will offer the redesigned version pricier for about 300 dollars for all trim levels. The price for the starting models is going to be somewhere around $40,000 dollars.
Slight Changes Which Make a Great Difference for the new F-150
The exterior of the 2019 Ford F-150 has gone through some reworking which is slight but impacts us in a big way. The new details are going to concentrate mainly on the front and rear ends of the car. The front part changes the grille, the front bumper and the headlights. The grille has a hexagonal shape and adds horizontal bars and is much bigger than the last time. The bars from the grille make its way into the headlights and the connection with the bumper makes a more interesting look for the car. Other trim levels will have slight variations on the front which are going to distinguish them apart.
The rear part of the car gets a new tailgate and new taillights. The middle part of the car is the same and so is everything else in fact. All the aluminum is in its place and it is actually a good thing. The car still looks fresh and it is owed to the still young design of the current car which was only released a couple of years ago. All of the utility tropes are still there with the towing hook, a receiver hitch and wiring connectors. The models which use 4WD will subsequently add extra underbody skid plating in order to protect the most important parts of the car.
Very Little Changes for the Inside
Peering on the inside of the 2019 Ford F-150 we immediately notice that nothing has changed. The car is kept identical to the 2015 version and consequently the latest Super Duty truck as well. The design of the inside is still fresh and very much useful as it was only redesigned a few years ago. It does not need to change so much and they decided to keep it the same. The car boasts with great ergonomics and also has lots of storage space, which will actually differ base on the trim levels.
The base trim levels of the F-150 will continue to be very modest when it comes to the equipment. The vehicle will only have an AM/FM/CD/ radio and add vinyl bench seats with cloth as optional and rubber floors. The higher trims will upgrade with a SYNC 3 infotainment system and leather options while the high-end trims will include luxury two-color leather and cooling and massaging options available for the seats. Also standard is the moonroof for the highest trim levels.
Powertrain Options and Updates
There are many new things going on under the hood of the 2019 Ford F-150. All of the engine options which the F-150 came with are going to be redesigned and are going to offer better output and more power. The only one which is kept the same is the EcoBoost 3.5-liter V-6 version and it is only because it has been updated quite recently. The base 3.5-liter V-6 is being replaced with a naturally aspired 3.3-liter V-6, but it will still make the same output of 282 horses and 253 pound-feet of torque. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 and the 5.0-liter V-8 engines have also gone through a change and will receive updates for the upcoming model, but unfortunately they have still to release any stats regarding their outputs. The newly added engine is the 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel, also called the Power Stroke. This is an exciting new addition which has been developed by Ford but they are keeping most about the engine a secret. It is estimated that it might produce 254 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque but the figures still need to be confirmed.
Top Speed and 0-60 mph Acceleration for the 2019 Ford F-150
The changes in the powertrain may also affect the specs of the 2019 Ford F-150. For now they are being very much secretive about what they are trying to present to us in terms of acceleration and power. But we are surely to gain some changes to the current 5.7 seconds needed to reach 0-60 mph and the top speed of 108 mph.
What about the Fuel Economy
The fuel economy is also something that is left to estimations for now and the 2019 Ford F-150 will certainly gain a bit and add lesser consumption numbers. All of the changes done to the engines are going to result in some sort of a change. Many of them will certainly result in getting a more efficient option. The current stats stand at 17 mpg city drive and 21 mpg highway which will certainly improve with all the reworking which they are preparing for.
The size of the 2019 Ford F-150 trucks is not going to change. It is still going to be offered in Regular Cab and Super Cab forms. The regular one will be 209.3 inches long, height 75.5 inches, width 79.9 inches while the wheelbase is 122.4 inches. The Super Cab version is a bit bigger with a length of 231.9 inches and a wheelbase of 145.0 inches, and the height and width being 75.5 inches and 79.9 inches.
New Safety Equipment
For the 2019 Ford F-150 version they have prepared some new active safety systems. These are going to be optional for the base and lower trim levels while the higher and top-range ones get them as standard. Some additions include adaptive cruise control, which is used for the first time here, while other additions include the Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and lane-keeping. It will ultimately make the new batch of F-150 vehicles immensely safer.
Other Trucks in the Segment
The 2019 Ford F-150 will have the same competition before it. In fact all of the competing models are already in its rearview mirror as the F-150 brand has been ruling the segment for quite some time now. They are not going to budge now and will probably maintain if not even better their hold on the segment with this update. The models that are trying so hard to gain some ground here are the Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan trucks which may try to make some kind of an opposition.
