Mazda is preparing of the new model year with its 2019 Mazda 6 version. The model is still in its third-generation incarnation, so no new-gen models for now, but this is going to be the first facelift this model has received. It will freshen things up a bit and give the competition a run for its money as the Mazda 6 will stay relevant and competitive for at least few more years now. The update is not as big as you would expect it to be but it still holds up and can make a potentially good offer for the segment. It will give us more than we are used to seeing from the Mazda 6 and will ultimately make the setup greater.
The Mazda 6 is a very popular car now and sells pretty well, but things have not been that way in the past. The first Mazda 6 was released in 2002, but its roots go further back in 1987 when the car was dubbed the 626. Then the car was a compact, but the modern version was brought up to a sedan size and this move brought even more praise and popularity for the car. But the first-generation of Mazda 6 sedan cars was not good looking at all. It took them a lot of time to refine the formula and it was with the entry of the third-generation models in 2012 that they got it right and managed to comprise the suitable look and setup for the Mazda 6 sedan.
The third generation Mazda 6 made its debut in Los Angeles and its release also coincided with the introduction of the KODO-Soul of Motion design language that Mazda has introduced for all of its cars. Now Mazda is mainly recognizable for this kind of design language and it also brought fame for its entire lineup. One of the proofs is the Mazda 6 car, which has gone through a modernistic sort of change.
The 2019 Mazda 6 will still use the established characteristics that the original has made, but will offer us a redesigned, bolder offer that can make a lot of differences. The design is going to feature some changes and the front fascia will carry the majority of changes made. But the engine will carry over unchanged and we will have the same one which was introduced with the start of the third-generation models. They have also not forgotten about the interior of the car as it too will add some updates.
The release date is getting closer and closer and the prices for the 2019 Mazda 6 model were already released so we saw it fitting to bring you a review in time before the car comes.
When is the Release Date of the 2019 Mazda 6 Model?
The release date of the 2019 Mazda 6 is still not mentioned officially. There is still time for it to come out and we are expecting to see it announced soon. There are not so many things that need to be done so it will probably not take them too long to finish and output this model on the market. We are confident that we will be able to see the car by the end of 2017 and it will come faster than you think it would. The problem will be that the release date for the US may take a while, but since it usually takes them about two months to release it oversees it might be the case this time as well. Depending on the original release date we can expect the emergence of the car to be a few months later in America.
What is the price of the 2019 Mazda 6?
We are lucky to find out that the prices for the upcoming 2019 Mazda 6 have already been released. This is also a confirmation which means that the model will also come out soon. Generally speaking, the prices of the Mazda 6 models for 2019 will increase for about $500, each. The offer starts with the base manual transmission version which will be priced at $21,945 as base MSRP. If you chose an automatic one it will boost the price to $22,995. The Touring trims with a manual shifter cost $24,195 while the Turing automatic ones are going for $25,245. Finally, the top trim Grand Touring will be priced $30,695. Of course there are various packages and custom paint offers which are going to come at an added cost and might increase the price more. You can check out the package list of that and see what sort of added amenities they offer.
What are the Exterior Tweaks for the 2019 Mazda 6?
It is not unfortunate that the exterior of the 2019 Mazda 6 has not improved that much. These small improvements are actually quite enough to change and update the car. It immensely improves the appearance of the sedan and makes it feel stronger and more expressive. The majority of the changes are done on the front of the car and it seems that the vehicle will change for the better because of that. The turn light units are replaced and the headlights are redesigned with new LED features. The grille also looks more menacing as it adds six instead of five slats positioned horizontally. Below it we find a lower apron and there are new fog lamps within a trim which is made in a boomerang design.
The rear end is not changed as much as the front. The back of the 2019 Mazda 6 is kept mostly unchanged and there are only minor details that are going to differentiate the models apart. You will notice that the only difference found here is a different taillight cluster which manages to modify things but all of the other parts are transferred. The profile of the car is also completely the same. We do not have any mechanical modifications made here but there are some aesthetic additions. Namely, the size of the 19-icnh wheels is retained but the color of them is going to be a lot darker. Also new for the body of the car are two new colors which make it, namely Titanium Flash Mica and Sonic Silver Metallic are added now, so the complete spectrum of color choices now comes to a total of nine for the Mazda 6 2019.
Updates for the Interior
The interior of the 2019 Mazda 6 is going to get some added convenience features which are going to help with things inside the car a bit. So now the novelties include adding Nappa leather seats with contrast stitching, but only for the Grand Touring models and with the Premium Package. This is also going to come with a lot of new elements which includes a black headliner, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and chidori stitching, while there are also added metallic trims across the dashboard.
In the technology department additions will include the Active Driving Display in full color and a 4.6-inch TFT display, also in color. But this is also saved for the high class trims and will be mainly offered for the Touring and Grand Turing models. But the base trims and mid ones will be updated with an added Mazda Connect system.
But there are some improvements which are going to come across the board for all trim levels. These include better sound insulation for the vehicle. There is also a thicker windscreen which will block the wind noise and also offer better protection but the Grand Touring models will also be using laminated front side windows.
2019 Mazda 6 Drivetrain
The drivetrain will be carried over from the previous version for the 2019 Mazda 6. The engine which the third-generation made its debut is still going strong and has proven time and time again that it still holds up as a good option for the Mazda 6 model. The 2.5-liter, Skyactiv-G, four-cylinder engine is going to provide the driver with 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque and the power is sent to the front wheels with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic. Only the Grand Touring trims will offer something special in terms of the engine as they will include a i-ELOOP system which helps with fuel economy and power production. Everything else is a complete crossover even for all the other stats.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
With the carryover of the engine for the 2019 Mazda 6, the acceleration and the top speed is carried over as well. The model will simply copy the stats for the newest updated version and we do not mind that at all. The current engine is still a good choice and will manage to hold up for quite a while longer. So the model is able to make it to 0-60 mph in 7.6 seconds still and its top speed remains at 140 mph.
What About the Fuel Economy of the Car?
Fuel economy, as other aspects of the 2019 Mazda 6, are also consider as carryovers. The standard choices for the engine is quite capable of adding enough fuel usage and will enable the car to spend as much as it did before. The stats do not even need to improve as the Mazda 6 had already hosted some good fuel economy numbers. With the car using a manual shifter, the rates go to 25 mpg city and 37 mpg highway. But with the automatic transmission the scores will jump to 26 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway. Btu with the help of the added i-ELOOP, the Mazda 6 Grand Touring version will be equipped with the ability to improve its stats. Thus the model now has a calculated EPA rating of about 28 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. Thus if you want better quality you can chose the Grand Touring model.
The 2019 Mazda 6 will Transfer the Dimensions
Although an interesting update was brought for the 2019 Mazda 6 model, there were no changes for the size of the car. The vehicle will simply transfer and keep the same size of the car that we were used to seeing. The transfer dimensions may seem good for the model and the car still holds up even with the same size. Thus the dimensions still stay at: full length 192.7 Inches, wheelbase 111.4 inches, width 72.4 Inches and height 57.1 inches. The same thing goes for the interior spacing which is still appropriate and good enough for the passenger to enjoy and relax in during the ride.
Improved Safety Ability
The newest 2019 Mazda 6 model will also improve its safety stats a little bit. The fact is that the most pieces here are also carryovers and the basic setup will use the same one that you have seen in the previous car. But things are going to improve with the help of new technology which comes for the inside. For example, the car will add Lane-Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition and Advanced Blind Spot Monitoring as part of its new offer now. It will help to improve the safety scores and will provide the car with added security.
Other Choices in the Segment
The 2019 Mazda 6 will remain one of the better looking midsize sedan models on the segment. This is a fact that we already knew before the release of the news for an updated Mazda 6 2019. But it still comes as a welcomed addition to the car. It will keep the car fresh a little bit longer and will certainly keep it competitive for at least two more years. This gives the designers enough time to start planning or maybe even outputing a next generation model. But since there have been no talks about this actually coming to fruition, we are still going to keep this car close to us. Other competitive models in the segment that you can view as alternatives include the Honda Accord and the Toyota Camry which are older and already established variants. But will they be able to keep up with the incredible style that the Mazda 6 now holds?
