Following in the footsteps of the Subaru Impreza is the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. The Crosstrek is Subaru’s second seller and therefore spared no effort in offering it the best upgrades. Just like the previous iteration, the new model will be offered in four models – Touring, Convenience, Limited, and Sport. It comes almost as a perfect semblance to the funky concept that was previously shown during the 2016 Geneva Motor Show – chiseled stance, sweeping roofline, and wider stance.
In a nutshell, the new model is set to return with these features – a second implementation of SGP (Subaru Global Platform); will cost $100 more than the current 2017 model; standard Raised Stablex Suspension and Active Torque Vectoring; and a 2.0L Boxer Engine with Direct Injection capability.
According to Subaru, the Subaru Global Platform has been designed to deliver a higher level of ride comfort, crash protection, agility, and driving pleasure. Set to arrive at dealerships this summer, the new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek will debut in three trim models – the bare bones 2.0i base model, the medium-equipped Premium model, and the top-of-the-trim Limited model. The Crosstrek 2.0i base trim model, for the first time, is set to get the Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission system.
For the new model year, the new model returns with an upgraded mill beneath the hood, with the Boxer engine gaining a direct fuel injection as well as other upgrades. Thanks to the new enhancements, the new output now rises by 4 horsepower, bringing the total output to 152 horsepower. Safety has also been optimized than before. In fact when equipped with the available EyeSight option, the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek gets an IIHS rated TOP SAFETY PICK++.
Safety aside, the new model has also gained a good number of features such as new sets of 17-inch alloy wheels for the Crosstrek 2.0i model. Standard features include black simulated carbon fiber finish, a new gloss black roof spoiler, black side cladding, and roof rails. Also new for the Crosstrek include a new 6.5” Subaru Starlink touchscreen display that adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include carpeted floor mats, security system with engine immobilizer functionality, a tilt- and telescopic steering wheel, power windows and door locks, and a multi-functional display.
The Crosstrek Limited and Crosstrek Sport come equipped with rear cross-traffic alert and blind spot monitoring. The Eyesight package is also offered as an extra. In addition, buyers will get reverse automatic braking, high-beam assist, lane-departure assist, adaptive cruise control, and pre-collision warning.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Engine Review & Performance Specs
Standard across the entire lineup is a 170-horsepower 2.5L BOXER engine. These power is then taken to all the four wheels via the six-speed manual transmission system. Also provided for the 2.0XT models in the Premium and Touring forms is the 250 horsepower four cylinder turbocharged engine. In addition to the impressive output figures, the new model will continue offering advanced and outstanding features that perfectly mate durability, comfort, safety, and drivability.
As for the 2019 Subaru XV Crosstrek, buyers should expect the new model to come with a 2.0L direct injection four-cylinder engine that just like the regular model, should get about 80% revision in parts. In addition to making the engine lighter, these changes should also help in improving efficiency and delivering more power. According to some rumor mills, the XV Crosstrek is set to get the same output as the regular model – 152 horsepower and 148 hp.
Just like the regular model, the new model also comes with an impressive list of safety features that include pre-collision braking, steering responsive headlights, reverse assistance, lane change assistance, adaptive cruise control, lane-change assistance, and high beam assist. Pricing for the XV Crosstrek is set to start at around $21,795. This will represent an increase of around $100 over the outgoing entry level model.
The EPA is yet to release the mpg ratings for the updated engine.
Exterior Modifications & Interior Features For The New 2019 Subaru Crosstrek
The new Forester 2.5i Black Edition model is set to be an upgrade from the 2.5i Premium model. Four exterior colors that you should expect to be offered once the new model goes for sale are Dark Grey Metallic, Ice Silver Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, and Crystal Black Silica.
Inside of the Crosstrek, users will find the head- and legroom space quite appealing. Also, the exterior visibility is something worth appreciating and the driver seat also features an adjustable seating position as when adjusting is needed. The three knob climate control setup is simple to use but some might find the navigation interface to be unnecessary awkward.
Entry and exit are particularly impressive thanks to the taller seats. Taller passengers may however need to learn a new set of skills because the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, just like its predecessor, combines a more carlike roofline with the height of a small crossover SUV. It feels spacious inside thanks to the high tall windows and high roof. The same impressive credentials carry on around back. Dimensions remain unchanged.
Thanks to its high ride height, the Subaru Crosstrek 2019 is easy to see out of. Again, its roof support pillars are slender. Around back, the rearview camera is offered as a standard feature and the mirrors are fairly big. Depending on how you compare it, the Crosstrek’s utility remains solid. It is able to tote over and above its peers such as the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V, and the CX-3.
Truth be told, there’s a lot to be loved about the new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek. Not only does it give you an all-time all-wheel drive system, it also gets you a boatload of features such as an impressive cargo area, a spacious interior, a fuel efficient four-cylinder engine, and an off-road ready gear to get you where you need to go with ease. So does the Crosstrek have any other alternatives? And the answer is quite simple, yes! So for whatever reason you dislike it, the segment gives you alternatives such as Mazda CX-3, Honda HR-V, and the Jeep Renegade.
Price & 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Date Of Release
Until now, the details regarding its release date are yet to be offered by Subaru. However, rumor has it that it’s possible for it to go for sale sometime towards the end of this summer. As for the price, this is what we should expect: the 2.0i Premium with a six-speed transmission system starts at an MSRP of $22,595, the 2.0i Premium with a CVT mating starts at $23,595, and the top-of-the-trim Crosstrek 2.0i Limited with a CVT fitting starts at $26,295.
