2019 Subaru Legacy review

The 2019 Subaru Legacy is being updated. The newly announced model is supposed to offer a bit of a refresh so the model continues its existence for a few more years on the market in this format. Actually the car already had a pretty good stint and we do not see it ending any time soon. The new generation model will probably have to wait a bit as we are not really ready to give up on the current Legacy car. But we welcome any sort of updates that they decide to introduce with the 2019 version.

The Subaru Legacy is known as one of the best mid-size vehicles that money can buy. The safety for the car is good and the automobile is able to provide great riding ability in all weather conditions. It also provides great value for many and offers a roomy interior and decent fuel economy specifications.

The value of this kind of a car is something that would last forever. It has been on many lists of best models of the year already and is widely acclaimed. Thus the update, although mild, will be a great refreshing addition which is made for the car and something which we will hold in great regards. The release date is coming soon and we are inclined to provide our take on this car though our review.

When is the Release Date for the 2019 Subaru Legacy Set For?

The newly appointed 2019 Subaru Legacy model will make its official appearance by the end of the year. The release date is not closely specified but it is more than reasonable for the car to come out by the end of 2017, even though it is labeled as a 2019 version. The release date will be confirmed very soon.

What is the Starting Price for the Car?

The upcoming 2019 Subaru Legacy will have a similar price rate compared to the outgoing model. Expect the model to retail at around 22,000 dollars for the base version and go all the way up to 32,000 dollars for the Limited trim.

What are the Exterior Updates?

The design of the 2019 Subaru Legacy is very handsome and elegant. Every piece of the outside part of it is well crafted and done with a purpose. There is no part without a purpose here and it does not follow any nonsense modern trends. It does its own thing and does it well. Perhaps the most distinguishable feature is a sharp raked windshield which is combined with mildly sculpted fenders and lower bodywork.

The logo is placed inside the six-sided grille and the front end is a bit blunt with the grille part being positioned taller. This is an element transferred from the Outback models, but it does not interfere with the elegance of the Legacy car.

With this year’s Sport package there are some additions which enhance the look of the car. It gives it bigger wheels and a lot of chrome accents and also provides new and different color choices. It is a new option for some people who want more excitement from their Legacy models.

Interior Aspects and Changes

The interior of the 2019 Subaru Legacy has a very clean and very reasonable look. It offers us a combination of both wood-grain and metallic trims which also helps us distinguish the upper and the base trims apart. All of the gauges are lit in blue and there is a small LCD display placed between the dials. The vents are now stacked a bit higher on the dash and it makes room for an updated touchscreen interface under which there is a panel of knobs and controls. Perhaps the only downfall of this car is the materials that it uses. The upholstery is still subpar from the ones offered in other models, but we can say that they did make a lot of strides compared to the ones offered before.

What are the Performance Numbers?

As far as things go under the hood, the 2019 Subaru Legacy is retaining its own regular engine choices that it already had. The base version will be the 2.5-liter flat-4 engine which makes 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. But there is an optionally available one, the 3.6-liter flat-6 engine, which is stronger and able to churn out 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Bu the base engine is 100 pounds lighter which presents an advantage when choosing between these two engines.

0-60 mph and Top Speed

The newest 2019 Subaru Legacy will not change its characteristics when it comes to speed and acceleration. The model is still capable of making 8.8 seconds when it comes to reaching 60 mph and also can develop a top speed of 130 mph, drag limited.

Fuel Economy Specifications

Fuel economy ratings for the 2019 Subaru Legacy models will be carried over. The same set of engines also means the same fuel ratings. The Legacy model is one of the better and fuel efficient cars of its segment. In fact, they did not meddle with this as the ratings are already good. The base engine has an EPA rating of 20 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined. The secondary engine provides 25/34/29 mpg. This is pretty fantastic and the only better offer is the prospect of the Camry Hybrid which produces 43/39/41 mpg.

The thing with the dimensions is that they are going to stay the same for the 2019 Subaru Legacy models. The updated version of the car will not change in terms of its length and size. They retain the same length and the same width as well. There was no need for this as the car is perfectly balanced and we also presume that the dimensions might be kept for the future models as well, even for the next generation of Legacy cars. The dimensions stand at a length of 188.8 inches, wheelbase 108.3 inches, width 72.4 inches and height 59.0 inches. The passenger volume is measured at 105 cu ft, while the cargo capacity is 15 cu ft.

Safety Systems

We presume that the safety ratings are going to be transferred for the 2019 Subaru Legacy model. The IIHS has rated the current models with an overall Good rating and has given it a Top Safety Pick+ award, due to some of the added safety equipment which the model has. It has deserved its safety rating with the inclusion of the EyeSight safety systems which provides rear automatic emergency braking with object detection. The model is already equipped with blind-spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alerts.

Rivaling Cars

The new 2019 Subaru Legacy will probably retain the top of the segment. This is arguably one of the best cars that has been produced and even the competition cannot reach the standard which this model provides. The cars which can be mentioned here are Chrysler 200, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima.
