Sooner than we expected I, the announcement about that the 2019 Volkswagen Golf car is getting a facelift is upon us. The current generation model has been around for years now, since 2012 when the model was first introduced to us. There haven’t been any significant changes from the car since that period and all that we saw were some minor updates. But the time has come for the car to expand on the sporty hatchback body that it has and bring in some more significant changes.
The original Golf model started as a VW release all the way back in the 70s. The model has become one of the most popular models that the German automaker has ever made and it soon become a car which was cherished and bellowed by the fans all around. The 33 million units sold worldwide since that day is a direct acclaim to the popularity of the car. But that said, the model needs to be refreshed from time to time.
The pictures of the 2019 VW Golf model were just recently released and they showcase a great looking model with the facelift touching the exterior and the interior in a significant way. All the changes will be visible once the release date is finalized, but luckily we have some exclusive information that we can provide to you in our review.
2019 Volkswagen Golf Release Date
It is expected that the 2019 Volkswagen Golf makes its debut by the end of 2017. The official information is still kept secret but it is apparent that the car is first going to be available in Germany, coming to us by the end of 2017. The release date for the US market will come a little bit later than that and we can expect the vehicle crossing the pond in mid-2019. In the same time we can expect 2020 Volkswagen CC to appear in the market.
What is the Starting Price of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf?
Based on the trim levels, the price of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf will differ. The starting base price is $19,895 for the S version, while the highest priced one is currently the Volkswagen Golf Wolfsburg edition that comes to $21,595. Other trim levels, like the GTI have still not been confirmed and neither has their price been as well.
Refreshed Exterior for the 2019 Volkswagen Golf
The refreshed version of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf gets some sportier elements added to it. The front fascia is arguably the most remodeled part of the car. The air dams are bigger but the corner air intakes have remained the same. The horizontal louvers that are placed on each corner vent look like a separate unit compared to the previous design. The chrome strip from the grille now extends into the headlights which have LED stripes around them.
The rear end is not changed so much. The biggest new addition here is that all models come with standard LED taillights. There are animated flowing turn indicators which are seen on the higher trim levels of the car, while the range topping ones come with individual LEDs for the brake lights and the taillights. The side of the car is also pretty similar but it does adopt a major difference which in a way changes everything. There is a sharp horizontal body line that runs through the car and brings in an air of sportiness.
2019 Volkswagen Golf – Interior Changes and Updates
The interior of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf has not been left untouched, but the car retains a lot of the elements from the current version. In fact, the biggest changes are done by adding new decorative features to the dash, doors, and center console of the car. The released pictures have also shown us some new seating covers and a carbon fiber panel in the dash and the door trims. This way they do manage to get great results without spending too much by remodeling the entire interior. We still get something new and exciting from the car.
The infotainment system is also updated as the existing one has been substituted with a next-gen MIB infotainment system. Besides this, the screens for its use are going to be larger. For instance an eight-inch touchscreen is added, while the Discover Pro system now has a 9.2-inch display. And the final touch is the addition of gesture controls which is an exclusive touch for this update.
What is the Powertrain Choice?
There are some good news shaping under the hood of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf version. The facelifted versions is actually getting a new engine. The plan is to launch the new 2019 VW Golf version with the 1.5-liter TSI EVO gasoline engine which will enable it to make an output of 147 horsepower and 189 pound-feet of torque. This model promises to deliver not only better performance but also expanded fuel economy. As a secondary choice, there is also the BlueMotion 1.5-liter Diesel engine offered as well which makes 128 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque.
What is the Acceleration Rate of 2019 Volkswagen Golf?
With a whole new powertrain fitted in the 2019 Volkswagen Golf model, its specs are also going to vary. The offered lineup of engines now provides an acceleration time of 7.7 or 7.8 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill. The top speed is also limited to 124 mph and 125 mph based on the engine you choose.
Fuel Economy Ratings
One of the main reasons for adding a new type of powertrain for the 2019 Volkswagen Golf was to improve the fuel specifications of it. They managed to achieve that so the newest model will be making 26 mpg city drive and 37 mpg highway. The EPA rating for the secondary version of the engine are measured to 31 mpg in the city and 42 mpg on the highway. The numbers state that the car will improve its fuel consumption ratings compared to what the competition has to offer. The new VW Golf will be one of the more fuel-efficient models in the segment.
There are no visible changes for the dimensions of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf. We can see the car retaining the same kind of dimensions for the future version as well. The model has only made aesthetic changes which reshape the car’s sportiness and that is pretty much it so the dimensions are not being expanded and changed in any kind of a way. The length is 167.6 inches with a wheelbase of 103.8 inches and a height of 57.1 inches and a width of 70.8 inches.
Safety Equipment and Scores
The model also takes the safety of its passengers very seriously and you can expect to see the 2019 Volkswagen Golf versions updated with some advanced safety options. Besides the standard set of features that we are already used to getting from the German brand, the model will add something more. These include traffic jam assist, emergency braking with pedestrian monitoring, and emergency assist. The added features are used in the Golf model for the first time and will exemplify the great awareness that VW is making towards the safety of tis passengers. Performance is not everything for a car, so the new Golf is a complete package of safety, technology and drivability.
List of Rivaling Cars
We can safely say that there will not be many cars that will be able to rival the 2019 Volkswagen Golf model. In fact the updates brought to its rivals are good but compared to this one are going to lag behind. Maybe the performance can be great for some cars but the combined offer that the Golf is giving us now has a greater advantage compared to the Ford Focus hatchback and the Mazda 3 models, which are the closest rivaling cars.
