The upcoming version of 2021 RS5 is getting an update just like the A5 version which came before it. As a 2017 version of the A5 model was released and updated, the time came for the high-performance counterpart of the vehicle to do the same. Thus it was announced that the RS5 brand will also get an upgrade and a release date around a year after the base model. The final product was finally unveiled at this year’s Geneva Auto Show and we can finally review the new product.
What we immediately noticed about the 2021 Audi RS5 is that the model is getting all sorts of updates. Some of them are going to be in the manner that the Audi A5 was reworked but a lot of them will concentrate on making the car more aggressive. The look of the car lies in adding to it more aggressiveness and making the car look mean on the streets.
But the update will also concern the powertrain. In fact, it takes up a bigger portio n of the changes that have been implemented for the 2021 version of the Audi RS5. Compared to before the car will add torque and keep the same power. You might view this as strange but the results of the changes also imply that the car is faster as it has a higher top speed and also accelerates better.
How is this possible you may read right here as there are more things to find out about the latest 2021 Audi RS5.
When is the Release Date of the 2021 Audi RS5?
After the initial showcasing of the 2021 Audi RS5 at the Geneva show, it was stated that the vehicle will come out in 2020. We are expecting the car to hit the market somewhere towards the second quarter or third quarter of the year as the release date is set for a summer release.
What is the Price that we can Expect?
Unfortunately, the 2021 Audi RS5 will not be offered in America this time and we do feel sad about it as this might just prove to be one of the better upgrades that Audi has made. The model is priced €80,900 in Europe which would translate to somewhere around $87,405.
Aggressive new Exterior Design
We already stated that the 2021 Audi RS5 is going to be very aggressive in terms of design. They have decided to make this update all about stating how fast the car can go. So this time it is not the matter of only getting the car to be faster but also helping it look fast as well. The front end of the car gets the majority of the changes done as it does a little bit work for the grille, making it smaller but wider, and also changing the headlights as well by enhancing their size mainly. The corner vents have also been updated and the car features a lot of different lines that change its appearance and give it a very masculine tone.
The profile of the car has also gone through the same changes. The part which was a transfer from the last-gen model is the lower body line that runs across the car, but this time it has been made noticeably sharper. The lower portion of the body has also had some work done and adapts the side skirts to be closer to the waistline this time. The rear end has been meticulously redesigning. The rear fascia seems very much different and it also helps that the car received new sleeker taillights and a rear deck which also spark aggressiveness. All in all, the car wears its heart on its sleeve and does not try to fool anyone with the appearance and with what it is capable of offering.
Inside Redesign and Touches
The inside of the 2021 Audi RS5 has surpassingly been updated in a grand manner. If you know Audi than you know that they do not go all-in when redesigning cars. This has happened only a few times and it appears that it happening with the 2021 RS5 brand. We see better leather materials with carbon fiber all over the place. There is new technology added and also some parts have been stylized to perfection. The interior tone has a darkish hue thanks to the black leather which is mostly used but is well balanced with the red stitching which contrasts the dark atmosphere a bit.
The dash and the instrument cluster have gone through a massive change. First of all, the instruments have been digitalized and the latest version of Audi’s virtual cockpit is added to prove better usage of the controls. With it come the updated infotainment controls like the MMI navigation with an MMI touch system and also the Audi connect system which provides more connectivity compared to before. All of this is finished off with a redesigned flat-bottom wheel which has the same stitching and leather as the rest of the cabin and comes with redesigned spokes as well.
Powertrain and Output
When it comes to the engine, the 2021 Audi RS5 will implement the same formula as much of the contemporary cars are doing. So this means no V-8 under the hood but a smaller unit with bigger turbos. The one which will come under the hood of the 2021 Audi RS5 is the Biturbo, 2.9-liter V-6 engine which will provide the same amount of power and output as the previous engine, 450 horsepower. But the changes come with the torque as the model is upgraded to deliver 442 pounds of torque for the updated engine. When we say that this means an increase of 124 pounds per feet of torque compared to the last time it makes it seem even more impressive.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
The acceleration of the 2021 Audi RS5 will improve but the top speed is not going to get to the expected 200 mph mark. Instead, we are getting an, in a way, a standard top speed of 175 mph, but the time needed to get there is significantly improved. Thanks to the torque, lighter weight and a new type of engine the RS5 reaches 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster compared to before.
Fuel Economy Changes
For now, the fuel economy stats for the 2021 Audi RS5 are still unofficial but it would seem that they are getting better at this. It will mainly depend on ion the weight of the car as the model has suffered a weight loss of about 132 pounds. It translates into fuel consumption of 8.7-liters per 100km, which would be equal to 27 mpg as a combined rating. But the official stats will be posted a bit later.
Dimensions and Trunk Size
The dimensions of the 2021 Audi RS5 have not been so much changed and they appear to be kept at the same level as the outgoing model is. The length of the vehicle is measured to
185.9 inches while the wheelbase is 108.89 inches. The height stands at 53.54 inches while the width is 73.26 inches. As for the inside, the numbers are yet to be released and confirmed but we are expecting the same specs as the last time.
New Technology for the Safety of the Car
The 2021 Audi RS5 is going to update the safety systems as well and it will combine for a much greater effort when it comes to keeping the passengers safe. Not everything has been released so far but there are about 30 different features that guarantee the driver to be concentrated and fully aware of what is happening on the road and within the car. Both passive features and active ones come into play with this redesign.
What are the Rivals?
Although the 2021 Audi RS5 might have a lot of vehicles to compete against, the closest ones are actually surprising entries. The Lexus RC F and the Cadillac ATS-V coupe might seem as unlikely models that could rival the car, but trust us on this one. These two models have all the chops in order to get their own fan base and topple the sales of the RS5. But we will see what happens once the car is out.
