Fiat is continuing its roster of innovative vehicles with the 2021 Fiat Tipo model which will be released really soon. This car is joining the rebirth of Fiat which has started recently with a lot of great new releases and very competitive offers. The models that Fiat has released so far have been enough to raise Fiat from the obscurity which was their problem. The Fiat Tipo is yet another model that will do the same and will replace the Linea model as the compact sedan choice.
The new model that Fiat is offering will have a really hard job in front of it as it will compete in the highly competitive C-segment. The name Tipo, meaning Type in Italian, is not new. The Italian automaker has already used this car in the period between 1988 and 1995. It used to share a platform with the Alfa Romeo and Lancia models and was the new hot thing at the time. It was introduced in order to replace the Ritmo model but was later replaced by the Bravo and discontinued.
The new 2021 Fiat Tipo is a car that is designed in Italy but made in Turkey, and it will make an appearance in multiple markets around the world with a separate release date. Unfortunately, this car is not scheduled for a US release yet as Fiat is offering its 500 and 124 Spider vehicles in that market. But for the ones that are interested in finding out more about the Fiat Tipo model, here is a review about it.
2021 Fiat Tipo Release Date
The new 2021 Fiat Tipo model is going to make its debut at the start of 2021. The production is in full swing and the model will first be showcased at a major auto show in Europe, which will be subsequently followed by a timely release of the car. Unfortunately, the US audiences are not going to be able to see it but the release date will happen separately in all of the other areas located in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Potential Price for the 2021 Fiat Tipo
The price for the 2021 Fiat Tipo and its worldwide release has not been set. But the prices in Italy start at €14,500 as a base MSRP price, which translates to around $15,365. The predictions for the cost of the model are €13,050 for the German market or £11,610 in the UK.
The design of the 2021 Fiat Tipo offers just enough freshness to update this new model. Although the Linea, which it replaces, was not bad it had a dated look and the Tipo is supposed to fix all of those mistakes.
The Tipo car is almost the same as the Egea concept version which was showcased some time ago. The front end has a grille with “floating” chrome inserts and is surrounded by some very stylish looking headlamps which are finished off by a very nicely sculptured hood. The rear end also has the Egea’s C-shaped headlamps, chrome trim, and a pointy trunk lid.
The side view gives the 2021 Fiat Tipo a more premium appearance. It has a pronounced waistline, a chrome lower window trim, chrome door handles, and body-colored mirror caps. You can get it with 16- or 17-inch wheels and chose one of the seven available colors. The offered choices include Gelato White, Colosseo Grey, Amore Red, Cinema Black, Maestro Grey, Magnetico Bronze, and Canal Grande Blue.
The inside of the 2021 Fiat Tipo is very much different than the Linea model. It manages to refresh the dash, offers a cleaner center console, and add a brand-new steering wheel. Even with a lot of hard plastic surfaces still present, the Tipo manages to look much more premium than the car it replaces. Also, the interior is much roomier and provides lots of legroom and adds more trunk space.
Some standard tech features include an LCD screen, Bluetooth and AM/FM radio. There is a new five-inch Uconnect touchscreen, which allows you to access the DAB radio and multimedia connectivity, but that is available for higher trim levels. The highest versions offer us TomTom 3D navigation with TMC and IQ Routes and a 220-watt audio system.
Powertrain Ability and Specs
Depending on the market the 2021 Fiat Tipo drops on, there are going to be more engine options available. Actually there are two gasoline engines and two diesel ones. The gasoline offers starts with a 1.4-liter, four-cylinder “Fire” unit, making 94 horsepower and 94 pound-feet. But if you need more power there is the 1.6-liter “E.torQ”, making 108 horses and 112 pound-feet.
The diesel side of things starts with a 1.3-liter MultiJet oil burner. This one is able to make 94 horsepower and 148 pound-feet. The most powerful diesel engine is the 1.6-liter MultiJet that can provide us with 118 horses and 236 pound-feet.
The gasoline engines are going to combine with a six-speed manual transmission, while the 1.3-liter diesel uses a five-cog unit, while the 1.6-liter one has a six-speed automatic gearbox.
0-60 mph Acceleration
Depending on the engine choices, the acceleration stats for the 2021 Fiat Tipo are going to change. The 1.4-liter gets to 60 mph in 11.5 seconds and has a top speed of 115 mph. The 1.6-liter gasoline choice can sprint to 60 mph in 11.2 seconds and has a top speed of 119 mph.
The first diesel engine, the 1.3 liter one, can achieve 0-60 mph in 11.7 and can develop a top speed of 112 mph. The second 1.6-liter diesel one can do that in 9.7 seconds and also offers a top speed of 124 mph.
The fuel consumption rates have already been established for the 2021 Fiat Tipo model. Thus the 1.3-liter diesel version consumes 4.1 liters per 100 km, with CO2 emissions at 108 g/km. The 1.6-liter diesel engine makes 4.2 liters of fuel for each 100 km and emits 110 grams of CO2 per km. The specs for the gasoline versions have actually not been made but they will be issued in a timely fashion.
Dimensions and the Vehicle’s Size
Speaking of the size of the 2021 Fiat Tipo, it hosts similar dimensions as the vehicle it replaces. It is not completely the same but we can say that it is close to the original so the full length of the car, goes to 178.42 inches, the wheelbase is 103.77 Inches, the height is 58.93 inches and the width is 70.55 Inches. It makes it 1.1 inches shorter, 2.6 inches wider and 0.1 inches taller compared to the Linea. It even has a larger trunk capacity as it is able to fit 520 liters of cargo.
How is the Safety of the 2021 Fiat Tipo?
The new 2021 Fiat Tipo model rightfully earns a top safety pick. It is packed with all the standards and the necessary equipment when it comes to safety. It offers six airbags as standard equipment, ABS with Electronic Brake Distribution, and Tire Pressure Monitoring. Besides this, there are more advanced features which include Park Assist System rear camera, Electronic Stability Control with Panic Brake Assist, Cruise Control, Hill Start Assist, parking sensors, and Traction Control.
The new 2021 Fiat Tipo is really a good compact sedan model. But the segment is already occupied by the presently established models. The most popular ones here are of course the already known Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus models, so establish the Fiat Tipo brand will be largely difficult.
