The newest 2021 Ford Escape is going to receive a mid-life facelift. But this one will not give us a big change compared to what you would expect to happen. It will mainly freshen up the model a bit keeping it competitive in the segment a while longer. The Ford Escape is instantly recognizable as being a tall wagon and is competing in the compact crossover SUV segment and with this update, we can say that it will be here a while longer.
What the facelift includes are some aesthetic changes for both the inside and outside. The exterior part will change a little bit and it will mostly be seen in the front end of the car. The interior is going to be upgraded with the latest technology and the old one will get to use the newest versions. Under the hood, two new turbocharged engines are added to give more versatility to the Escape.
What they did here is to incorporate the parts from the Fusion model which actually helped the Escape become a very crisp version of the model it represents. There are improvements made in safety and it makes the overall car better. This was the main focus of our review and since the release date is getting close here are all the details.
When can we Expect the Release Date of the 2021 Ford Escape?
Many things are certain about the 2021 Ford Escape but the release date is still longing. The excepted time for this model to appear is somewhere around the end of this year or for the start of the upcoming one. Either way with most of the details already known it will not take too long for the car to make its appearance.
What is the Price of the Car?
The newest 2021 Ford Escape is going to retain a similar price range compared to the outgoing version. There is only a slight boost in the price so the base S model is now rated at 24,000 USD, the SE is 26,000 USD or 27,000 USD for the AWD version and the Titanium trims come at 30,000 or 32,000 USD depending on which version you go for.
A More Serious Tone
The newly updated exterior of the 2021 Ford Escape actually gives us more of a serious look than we expected. Adding refinement and getting the car to adopt a more of a corporate character is what the car offers. The changes are mainly going to concentrate on the front end of the car and will help with the car becoming more of a stylish car than a utility vehicle. Most of the new additions have been transferred form the latest Fusion sedan model which gives the new serious tone to the Escape. The result is a modern and a crisper looking vehicle than the one seen before it.
A Peculiar Inside Appearance
The interior is changed in a very peculiar style and the 2021 Ford Escape might be strikingly puzzling to some. They tried to make the cabin become a bold and modern environment and in a big way they managed to do that, but the heavy counters are a little bit too much in our opinion. Compared to other crossovers this one feels really adventurous and very upbeat. The passengers will certainly feel fine in this model and it will benefit them extremely well. But the rakish look does have some bad sides to it. The visibility is a little bit bad and there are less legroom and space for your knees as well. The dash is also stylized in the same manner and adds a slew of new elements that make it look interesting. But unfortunately, some of them do seem dated and we have expected more from the updated.
The 2021 Ford Escape will probably be one of the more fun to drive vehicles in the segment and will give you more than other models when it comes to driving. The entry-level engine is the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder one which will be able to provide 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. Compared to other models in the segment, the base engine is a little bit dated, but they make up with the extensive offer that they have. That is why there is the 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged with 4-cylinders which outputs 179 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque and gives better acceleration. But the top-rated version is the new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 making 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The only transmission choice given here is the 6-speed automatic which we get across the board.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
The base form of the 2021 Ford Escape is able to accelerate to 0-60 mph in no less than 7.1 seconds. But with the changes and the additions of the new powertrains, those stats are going to be better. The strongest and newly added engine is going to help the car go lower than seven seconds but all of them still have the same top speed of 116 mph.
Fuel Economy Specifications for the 2021 Ford Escape
The engine offers for the 2021 Ford Escape make it a car that offers different fuel economy ratings. So the base engine is going to be rated at 21 mpg city, 29 highway, 24 combined. But the newest additions help with better offerings so the 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder is rated at 23/30/26 mpg with the front-wheel drive and 22/28/24 in the all-wheel-drive form. The stats for the most powerful 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine are 22/29/25 mpg in FWD and 20/27/23 with AWD.
Dimensions and Trunk Capacity
The 2021 Ford Escape may have changed when it comes to its appearance, but the dimensions and the size are being kept the same. The car is 178.1 inches long and has a wheelbase of 105.9 inches. The height of the vehicle is 66.3 inches and the width is 72.4 inches. The interior volumes are not changed so the passengers can enjoy a spacing of 102 cu ft and the cargo is measured to 34 cu ft. The curb weight amounts to 3840 lb.
Improved Safety for the 2021 Ford Escape
It appears that the 2021 Ford Escape version is going to raise the bar when it comes to safety. They’ve added some new pieces which actually improves the scores and makes the car better. The parts which have been added for this version and were not used before including the forward collision prevention system, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking lane-keep assist and a driver alert system. The standard pieces still include a driver knee airbag, Ford’s MyKey system, and a rearview camera. The biggest problem for the Escape was its small-overlap frontal crash test which will not be changed from Poor to Acceptable by the IIHS.
Rivaling Cars in the Segment
The segment is filled with great cars and is one of the reasons why the 2021 Ford Escape was updated in the first place. Other models that have gone through updates or are always present in the compact crossover segment include the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sportage, 2021 Nissan Rogue, and Toyota RAV4.
