A Surprising Comeback from the 2021 GMC Savana

2021 GMC Savana review

The announcement of a new 2021 GMC Savana may not excite automotive fans as some other models on the market may. Vans are generally regarded as not so much popular and its design and looks are always in the second place when making them. But they do serve a particular purpose and are for that renowned as utility vehicles and models which can help you haul either people or a large load.

The GMC Savana model is the second most sold van coming from the US. It made its debut in 1996 and has since then managed to expand its popularity well off across the world. The van did get some considerable modifications in 2003 and 2008, but that was about it. Mind you, it is not as lucrative to redesign a van in a big manner as you might think. But they have decided to do it now and refresh the model a little bit.

For the newest update we will get a stronger frame with larger stabilizer bars. The cabin has gone through an overhaul as well and we got some more comfortable seats and expanded comfort features, but they also addressed the safety a little bit as well.

Nevertheless, the release date for the 2021 GMC Savana is coming soon and after the initial batch of photos we can finally give you a review about this model.

2021 GMC Savana Release Date

Perhaps people are treating the release of a 2021 GMC Savana somewhat uneventful. There are no special announcements and people are not making such a fuss about the coming of this car. Yet the Savana is going to be a featured car in the industry and will be still a well acclaimed vehicle. So the release date is expected for late 2020 with the car already being available for sale in the start of 2021.

What is the Expected Price?

The newest pricing for the 2021 GMC Savana will be in the rage of all the competition vehicles which we already have in the market. In fact a starting price of 32,000 USD is somewhat of a given and it will range to 35,500 USD for the highest and larger trims.

What are the Exterior Modifications Made?

Generally speaking the 2021 GMC Savana has not changed so much compared to before, but it does look a little bit fresher. In fact it looks almost the same as the Chevrolet Express, with only the front end differing a bit. The hood of the Savana has some smart creases which give it more dynamism. The same design language is kept for the headlights and all the trim levels are going to share the same exterior lines.

But since this is a GM product, it looks a lot like other ones in the segment. But we have to agree that it is much more upscale looking compared to, for example, the Express model. But they do share body types, so the half ton models have a regular length configuration, while the three quarter ton ones and the one ton version have a regular or an extended length.

Are there any Interior Updates Made?

2021 GMC Savana interior

The interior of the 2021 GMC Savana is actually fitted with more updates than the outside. We can see the wide opening doors and convenient grab handles, which makes getting inside the van fairly easy. The interior is very spacious and there is added storage space for this version also. The dash is pretty easy to use particularly if you have used a Savana before as they are very similar. It hosts great ergonomics as well but the quality of the materials is still not as high as you would want them to be. The new instrument panel features handy controls and round gauges for a better and more quality look.

The steering wheel is redesigned and comes fitted with some new very useful controls. Also offered are adjustments which you can use to make your seating position as you want it to be. Also this improves the seating greatly as the old ones were rock hard and the news ones are a bit softer than that. This adjustments of the seats can also benefit the outward visibly as you can position yourself in a way so you can better see the front.

Powertrain and Engine Specs Upgrades

Under the hood of the 2021 GMC Savana we did receive some modifications which will enhance the power of the vehicle a tad bit. There is going to be a total of four engine choices which will be spanned across the offered trims and configurations. So we can chose between a 4.3 liter V6 making 200 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, the 4.8 liter V8 with an output of 270 horsepower and 285  lb-ft of torque, the 5.3 liter V8 with 285 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque and the 6.0 liter V8 one with 300 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque.

Top Speed of the 2021 GMC Savana

With the newest 2021 GMC Savana getting some updates under the hood, some basic stats are not going to change. We do mean the top speed of the vehicle which will still be kept to 80 mph. The acceleration specs are still not disposed at the time of writing the article but updates will arise soon and we will make sure to report them.

Has the Fuel Economy Improved?

The fuel economy is not too shabby for the 2021 GMC Savana model. All of the engines are actually quite good and they provide a good source of power, so you will probably not make a mistake no matter which one you use. The same thing goes for fuel economy as they are built to be as fuel efficient as they possibly could be, at least for a van or a people hauler. The estimated ratings are given at an EPA of 19 mpg for combined consumption.

Dimensions of the Newest 2021 GMC Savana

The size of the 2021 GMC Savana model is pretty great. We do mean that it has enough room to carry anything that you can throw at it. The regular wheelbase version has an overall length of 224.10 in and a height of 84.60 in and the wheelbase of 135.00 in. The Extended Wheelbase version has all the sane figures but the wheelbase amounts to 155.00 in and the weight of both of them amounts to 8600.00 lbs. The most amount of cargo that you can fit is 124.60 in in the regular and 146.20 in in the extended wheelbase one.

Security for the 2021 GMC Savana

The newest 2021 GMC Savana will inherit the five start crash testing rating from the previous model. The car was tested by both NHTSA and IIHS and has passed with flying colors before. The newest one will also use the same type of equipment which made the previous one such a good and safe car. Standard equipment includes antilock disc brakes, stability control and side curtain airbags. Also, something that not a lot of cars in the segment meet is the outward visibility. Not only will it offer a substantial view but it actually provides us with added mirrors which are positioned at an angle which helps it be even better.

Other Cars in the Segment

The new 2021 GMC Savana is going to meet an already familiar crowd as its competition. Although the van segment is not as popular as the other ones are it still manages to fit in a nice crowd of vehicles which one choose from. The familiar faces found here are the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Ram ProMaster, Chevrolets Express and Nissan NV1500 models.
