2021 Mazda 6 Release Date, Price and Exterior

2021 Mazda 6 review

The release of the new 2021 Mazda 6 is expected to cripple the new Volkswagen CC. All the rumors were based on one single animated sketch, leaked a couple of months ago. We didn’t want to report about that, simply because it wasn’t confirmed. Today is a different day, and we finally have the sketch of the exact same car, but this time, on Mazda’s official Instagram. That is why we finally get to report about everything we know so far and to announce Google’s new app because Mazda was too lazy to make their own.

2021 Mazda 6 Release Date And Price

Mazda has never released any of its models In the middle of the year, so don’t expect 2021 Mazda 6 release date to be somewhere in the middle of the next year. Our wild guess is the beginning of 2021, or maybe even as in the first few months of 2020. Since it, something like a “low budget” car (for some parts of the world) the 2021 Mazda 6 price is going to fluctuate between $26,000 and $35,000.

Prices are our projections according to all the details we have to work with, and not some official data.

2021 Mazda 6 Exterior

According to the new spy photos, the 2021 Mazda 6 exterior is so similar to the current and previous generation that you can hardly notice any difference. There are cosmetic details of course. The overall shape is a little bit sportier and edgier. Some say that it reminds them of Acura, but I don’t see the similarity. The headlights are thinner and longer and there and the entire front fascia looks shorter and more muscular. Everything else looks exactly the same as on the previous models of Mazda 6.

There is no news about other models like 2021 Mazda6 Tourer, which is one of the favorites for the fans of diesel engines. If they keep the idea of a wagon-style Mazda 6 alive and keep releasing that version, they will hit the bulls-eye.

The wagon-style is much more spacious and looks more majestic. Plus, the Tourer has more trims and a wider variety of engines, including 2.2 Diesel, which is in better shape than the petrol one. People who had the opportunity to drive it, more often choose it above the coupe (saloon) model.

2021 Mazda 6 Interior

One thing is completely certain, Mazda will continue their “no android and no ios” policy in their 2021 Mazda 6 interior. But there is one new player on the block. Google is making an app that will enable a “compatibility mode” and connect your phone with anything, including Mazda’s native operating system for the infotainment system. Voice command is not supported, but you can control everything through the touch screen.

Other updates will come in better equipment like heated and ventilated seats, a rearview camera with a wide-angle of coverage, Push button start, 7” display with Mazda Connect, Power and heated side mirrors and much more. All that will probably come with the base, most affordable version. The advanced offer is probably going to bring a better audio system, Memory seats, the Adaptive Front-lighting System with the automatic headlight leveling and Traffic Sign Recognition.

We’ll probably have three trims in the offer: 2021 Mazda 6 GX, 2021 Mazda 6 GS and 2021 Mazda 6 GT.

2021 Mazda 6 Engine Specs

Maybe the most important thing we hoped for was the 2021 Mazda Engine. We’ve hoped for some change, even a minor one. But it seems that Mazda is too lazy or too afraid to change anything here. That doesn’t mean anything and it’s probably only because the current engine is quite good. You don’t have to change something that is good but at least makes It a little bit better.

The old engine is going to return. SkyActiv-G 2.5 liter DOHC, 16 valves, 4 cylinders with VVT and fuel consumption of 36mpg on a highway. The taming force for this one has always been and will be in the future, the six-speed automatic (with an additional option for manual). With that fuel consumption, and somewhere around 200hp under the hood, it is a good deal.

2021 Mazda 6 Diesel is under the consideration, especially when we look at the sales of Mazda 6 Wagon in the USA market. That model carries the 2.2-liter diesel engine with 173hp, which is also mated to 6 speed automatic or manual shifter. The AWD hasn’t been mentioned yet, but not all cards are on the table. Time will tell about that, and about some other rumors like 2021 Mazda 6 Hybrid.

I remember that there were some rumors and even spy shots of a hybrid version that never came out. Maybe it would be smart to think ahead, and maybe (just maybe) hope that Mazda 6 is going to be released with an additional Hybrid engine in 2021.

2021 Mazda 6 Safety

Mazda has developed a special safety system called i-ACTIVSENSE. Basically, that is the technology used in “smart cars” or cars with an autopilot function. This time, the system of cameras and radars is not there to help the machine to drive from point A to point B but to help the human.

It is made of 4 different systems, Milliwave radar which is first to react and warn about possible obstacles, a camera that has the ability to detect obstacles and traffic signs in the widest angle and near-infrared laser for the speed control. The fourth one is the Quasi-mill wave radar which is there to help the car and you to detect hazards from the back and sides.

The equipment has a number of functions:

  • AFS – Automatically controls the low beam in the direction you point the wheel.
  • HBC – Automatically detects the incoming traffic and switches between high beam and low beam.
  • MRCC – Controls the vehicle speed and acceleration if it detects the traffic in front of you. (advanced cruise control)
  • RVM – It alarms you if there is incoming traffic from the sides or the rear.
  • LDWS – It detects the lane markings on both sides and alerts the driver if there is some unintentional lane departure. (driver falls asleep)
  • FOW – It alarms the driver if there is a risk of collision.

All those functions are “pre-crash Safety Technologies”, but remember that technology is made by men.

2021 Mazda 6 Summary

Some spy shots appeared on the internet and gave us a small glimmer of hope, that we will soon see a better version of our favorite new coupe. It seems like we are getting the same engines and different designs of the interior and exterior. Pretty mediocre changes for the 2021 release and it won’t be enough to defeat the Volkswagen CC. Mazda has its own fan base, and there is no doubt that sales are going to go as planned, but this is not how you build the fan base, not even for a vehicle this young.
