What better way to advertise your 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R model than to get Luis Hamilton to do it for you. The vehicle was first shown at the Brooklands track where the famed Formula One driver was the first one to drive the car publicly and show us what the new AMG GT R vehicle is capable of. This was also the first-ever official unveiling of the car and they have done it in spectacular fashion announcing the things to come that way.
Mercedes’ AMG GT line made its way to the market at the Paris Auto Show in 2014 and was brought as the newly established Mercedes AMG car which came as a replacement to the SLS AMG line. But the coming vehicle is actually smaller than the car that it replaces and will ultimately rival different models. Nevertheless, the vehicle was also able to spawn a few performance options. One such is the GT3 version while the other is the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R, which we are reviewing right now.
The procedure of the car has already announced the coming and Louis Hamilton also did his thing to promote the car as best as possible. The makers say that this is a road-going sports car that will enable the vehicle to reach the next level of performance. As of now, it is the third AMG model released and also the most powerful one as well.
When is the Release Date of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R?
After the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R has been made public we also learned that the release date is coming quite early. The vehicle starts its sales in November with the deliveries already being done in March, the next year. It is a very nice time for being a Mercedes fan.
What about the Price?
The newest 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R will get a significant price boost compared to all of its other AMG brethren from the lineup. It is rightfully so as this model is the most powerful one and deserves the price tag it has. The car is sold for €165,410 in its base market of Germany, while in the US you will be able to order it for $157,000.
2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R Exterior Design
As far as the exterior of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R goes, it is similar to the base AMG GT but far more aggressive-looking. It actually shares more details with the GT3 model but ultimately adds its own new pieces. What sets it apart from the other AMG vehicles is a new grille that comes with vertically placed slats and is dubbed the Panamericana. We see some bigger side intakes newly made center vents and a splitter.
The vehicle will widen the front fenders and that way make way for the bigger 20-inch wheels. As for the side of the car, it adds new side skirts and black mirror caps and with the newly designed lighter wheels which come in black it gives the car an overall menacing look. The rear end adds a bigger rear wing which is going to help with the downforce of the car. There is a massive exhaust system that is placed right in the middle and sets the back end of the car apart from other products. Finally, the car comes with a Green Hell Magno paint job which further emphasis its aggressiveness.
Inside Additions and Design Changes
The interior of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R is also going to have similarities with the base AMG GT and the GT3 car. In fact, the dash, the center stack, and the center console are identical to the stock car, but other parts have been changed in a sportier manner and give the GT R model its edge. The seats are adjustable and very light sports seats which provide more back support and come with Nappa leather. They also add a Night Package for this car which provides shift paddles, bezel for the steering wheel, some door sills and a gloss black boot member. But if you really want to make this car as sporty as possible, then you would include the Piano Lacquer package. You can also order your car in matte black carbon-fiber which is optionally offered.
A Very Powerful Powertrain
The most impressive part of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R is, of course, its powertrain. They have used new turbochargers that provide modified compressor machining for the current twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 engine and have updated it in a great fashion. The model has been able to get an increase in both power and torque and it results in a total of 577 horses and 516 pound-feet of twist. The changes that have been made make the AMG GT R the most powerful from the three AMG vehicles with 74-horsepower and 35-pound-foot improvement over the GT S model.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
With the improvements that the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R received, we are looking at an increase in speed and acceleration. Comparing this model to other vehicles in the lineup makes it both the fastest and the most powerful lift. To prove this, the AMG GT R car race to 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds while being able to attain a top speed of 198 mph.
Fuel Economy Ratings
For now, the fuel specs of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R have not been released. Thanks to the modifications made for the engine it is pretty hard to determine what the changes are going to mean for the vehicle. But we are probably not getting a significant improvement for the fuel stats. The car is a performance car so you can expect performance-type consumption from the vehicle.
Dimensions and Size
The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R is going to be built differently compared to the other models in the lineup. If we are to compare it based on the car that it replaces, the SLS AMG, this one is a lot smaller. But the part where the care does get in increase is in the width which now 1.8 inches wider. It makes the car much more stable and allows it to gain the necessary balance at higher speeds.
Safety and Security for the Car
As far as we know, the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R is going to give us the usual package when it comes to safety. The vehicle will transfer all the usual types of safety specs form the base AMG and also use the ones seen on the AM3 version of the car. Through some packages, they improve and offer added equipment but generally, it is a standard set for a performance car like this. You will feel extremely safe in this sporty version of the AMG Mercedes car.
The newest 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT R has been made with a particular purpose and the vehicle was aimed to battle against a sole contender. This is the Porsche 911 GT3 vehicles and the new AMG GT R has been made to match against this car quite well in tandem. We shall see who gets the upper hand once the sales start going.
