2021 Mitsubishi Outlander Release Date, Price and Changes

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander review

The newly announced 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander may pose some interesting things for the buyers, but we think that a new generation model would have been a better choice than an update. The model still retains some of the flaws which it has with the current model. The powertrain choices were not changed and the model does not expand its power, which was more than necessary. The car also suffers from a tiny third row of seats that has to be addressed at some point.

But not all things are bad for the 2021 Outlander. The car is very reasonably priced and is a functional and still an appealing car for any family driving situation. Although the Mitsubishi Outlander is in fact the smallest vehicle in the market which offers a third row of seating, it is not its advantage but its downfall in some sense. Spacing needs to be enhanced and it could do with some expansions of its dimensions for the future.

The current generation Mitsubishi Outlander was released in 2014. The biggest change came just a few years afterward when the car got updated in 2016. They did manage to shape some things up and change the style of the car and the most important part was the update for the inside which gave it some more comfortable materials

The updates for the 2021 version will expand beyond that. The currently released pictures gave us a model that has kept the same kind of look and features a design that is a bit refreshed but nothing else. The release date will show us what exact changes have been made and you can find out about most of them here in the review.

When is the Release Date for the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander?

The rumors were confirmed with the pictures of the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander, but there wasn’t an official release date tagged to go along with them. The model will probably get its acclaim in 2020 and we are expecting to see it arrive in the market in the latter part of the year.

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander Price Ratings

According to the latest sources, the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander will have a larger price compared to the current one. But the price will not go beyond the affordability line. The starting ES trim is priced 23,495 USD, the SE is 24.495 USD, the SEL is 25,495 USD and the top of the range is the GT that costs 31,695 USD.

What is the Exterior Styling Like?

The newest 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander model actually looks very similar to the outgoing model. There are a few nips and tucks there that will be made but nothing more than that. The brand will use the so-called “Dynamic Shield” styling, which was derived from the late Montero SUV models.

The profile of the car adds some chrome lower moldings which go very nicely with the front end of the car and balance things out. There is a chrome trim added in the rear part of the car and we can see it on the bumper part. There is another chrome piece added which looks the same as the front grille flats and its positioned to the rear end. These are all the enhancements that the car has received for now and which have been shown. We do not expect to receive more than this for now and the car does not offer any other innovations.

Interior Design for the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander interior

The updated 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander will follow the look already established by the current model. The previous updates made the car a bit simple, in terms of style. There might be a division of opinion when it comes to the design of the dash. Some would say that it is refreshingly straightforward, while others may argue that it is to plan to use. There are not many buttons and the layout is easy to use. If you are not into a complex and detailed design than this model could provide a good and an easy to operate offer for you.

But the good thing is that the cabin is going to be updated a bit with the expanded offer of materials that come inside it. The instrument cluster has been refurbished with some contrast stitching elements and there is a leather-trimmed steering wheel. The center console has more padding now and the seats also have some higher and more comfortable materials they use. All in all, comfort is good and as long as you do not need to use the third row of seats, everything is good for the Outlander.

Powertrain Options and Specs

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander engine

The newest 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander will come with the same kind of powertrain offered as the last time. The fact of the matter is that they have been working a lot to improve the driving comfort and the maneuvering of the car for the last version, so there was no need for a change so suddenly. Most of the Outlander vehicles use a 166-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that is able to put out great numbers even for a car as heavy as this one is. Only the GT models will benefit from the 224-hp V-6 engine that is mainly there to offer a high-performance offer.

0-60 Speeding and Top Speed

The base engine will give the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander enough pep and enable it to reach the 0-60 mph mark in 7.6 seconds These specs will not change compared to the previous version and the top speed also remains the same being limited to 115 mph.

Fuel Economy Ratings

The fuel economy will not change for the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander. In fact, the car does come with an Eco driving button which might shape things up in terms of output and in terms of gas emission as well. It is an attempt of Mitsubishi in attaining a greener future of their cars. But the EPA ratings still measure a 25 mpg city, 30 highway, 27 combined consumption rating for the front-wheel-drive versions and 24/29/26 mpg for the all-wheel-drive ones, which is still good for the segment either way.

Dimensions Changes

Being that the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander is an updated version, there are going to be no changes in the dimensions and shape of the vehicle. It will retain the same size as the current one and the only dimension changes that we can expect are going to come for next-gen models. The entire length of the car is measured to 184.8 in, while the wheelbase comes to 105.1 in and a height and width of 66.1 in and 71.3 in. The car is pretty heavy and its curb weight is 3768 lb which affects the fuel ratings a bit. The inside passenger volume is measured to 126 cu ft while the trunk capacity is also not so favorable with 10 cu ft.

Safety Specifications and Equipment

The 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander will get a standard safety offer which includes seven airbags. These also include the driver’s knee airbag and side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors, but this part is not included for the third-row part. The model will also transfer the active safety system from the current one. The car will be using lane-departure warnings, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warnings with automatic emergency braking and will perhaps add pedestrian detection for the newest version in order to expand the package a bit.

What are Competition Vehicles?

The segment where the 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander competes is not that weak. In fact, it is a stronger segment when it comes to the potential that the vehicles have to offer. The ones that we do need to watch out for include the Chevy Equinox, Dodge Journey and the Honda CR-V models which are considered to be the most popular. Others that we can mention are also the Toyota RAV4 and the Subaru Forester which fit in terms of the provisions that they come with.
