2021 Nissan Maxima Release Date, Price and Specs

2021 Nissan Maxima review

For those of you who are expectant of changes for every new model release, here’s what to expect on the newly branded 2021 Nissan Maxima – None! And if there is, they’ll be too negligible to warrant any attention whatsoever. In fact, the only change the new Maxima gets is the addition of a few features to the Apple CarPlay set. Other than that, prospecting buyers should expect a few visual updates.

Whether or not the 2021 Nissan Maxima has changed or not, most consumers would be happy to buy it in its current form. The Maxima is a step above the typical family sedan thanks to its exciting, stylish, and refined demeanor. And it sweetens the deal by offering these incredible features at a reasonable price point. In addition, it scores big when it comes to sharp driving dynamics, abundant features for the money, easy-to-use controls, and an appointment.

Any buyer shopping around for a family sedan is arguably looking for groupings of models that offer things such as price, performance, size, and equipment offered. Although very few vehicles are able to balance these features intricately without asking for much and sacrificing other salient features, the Nissan Maxima 2021 is one that manages to seamlessly integrate these features into a single desirable package.

Inasmuch as we’d love to recommend the Maxima in this hotly contested market, we still have gripes with the 2017 model version and we’d recommend buyers to check out some of its alternatives first before bowing down to the new Maxima option. Available options include Chevrolet Impala, Nissan Altima, and the Honda Accord. So, Maxima vs Altima – although the two vehicles compete in two different categories in terms of size and price. The Maxima might be shorter on the outside, the Altima wins the day when it comes to interior space.

Things get interesting when you compare the Maxima to the Accord. Although the two are dimensionally the same in terms of size, the Maxima costs an extra 10,000 more. Even with a fully equipped Accord EX-L model, the Accord would still be an affordable option over a Maxima. In apples to apples comparison, we find the Accord to be the best option for buyers in this category, or at least better than the Maxima.

The Chevrolet Impala is yet another desirable option for buyers looking to own a family sedan. The Chevrolet Impala is an excellent option for buyers looking for tons of features and acres of interior space. Tall adults will find it pleasantly pleasing thanks to its good dimensions. Again, the Chevrolet Impala scores big on the trunk space with 18.8 cu. Ft.

As we expect the 2021 Nissan Maxima to return unchanged, buyers should, therefore, expect five trim models: S, SV, SR, SL, and the Platinum. Buyers are dissatisfied with what is offered as a standard amenity may have to purchase the available packages. One exciting package that was available on the exiting model is the Medallion Edition package that brings with it interior accent lighting, eighteen-inch wheels, a “premium” rear spoiler, and exterior ground lighting.

2021 Nissan Maxima Pricing and Release Date

Arrival for the 2021 Nissan Maxima, according to trusted websites should be expected sometime later this year in 2017 – in November to be exact. Being a carry-over model, we don’t expect the price to change by a significant margin. As such, buyers should ready around $33K for the cheapest model and around $40K for the top-of-the-range model. Pricing here is inclusive of the destination charge.

2021 Nissan Maxima Interior Changes & Exterior Redesigns

The interior is plush, comfortable, and laden with premium features. But of course, its premium price tag gets the credit for this. Passengers onboard are surrounded by quality materials on almost every major touchpoint. Seats are comfortable, supportive, and based on the teaser photos available on the internet, return with Nissan’s “Zero Gravity” functionality. Truth be told though, we haven’t found them to be as comfortable as those available in the Altima.

Lots of features are available on the Maxima both in standard and optional terms. The upgraded Apple CarPlay option provides intuitive, easy-to-use functionality. Rumors allege the Maxima 3.5R Platinum is going a step further in terms of features, and buyers should expect slight upgrades to the available options.

Exterior wise, buyers should expect the new model to carry forward unchanged. This means it’ll still spot the same visuals as the exiting model. Rumor mills have however been surprisingly quiet on the NissanMaxima Nismo model. Nissan should be expected to offer more insights on whether or not the Nismo has evolved or not later this year.

What’s Beneath The Hood Of The 2021 Nissan Maxima?

At the heart of the Maxima is a 3.5L V6 engine producing 300 hp and 261 lbs. ft. of torque. Pairing to the powertrain is done via a CVT system. The FWD system is standard. The vehicle should be able to spring from naught to 60 miles in just 6.1 seconds. Fuel consumption is rated at 21/30 mpg for city/highway cruising.

Government Crash Tests

In terms of safety, the new Nissan Maxima 2021 gets a five out five score for overall safety. Again, it received the best rating from the IIHS for both seat/head restraints, roof strength, side-impact, and in the moderate- and small-overlap frontal-offset impact tests.

Our Take

In conclusion, we find the 2021 Nissan Maxima is a fine choice for buyers looking for some driving inspiration thanks to its sporty, commendable grip, and controlled body motions that equate to an improved and better option to the typical family sedan. We’ve however noticed that the Maxima has an unusual steering response and effort and the SR trim model makes things even worse with its firm ride quality. As a result, we would approach the SR option with lots of caution.

The other irking thing about the Maxima is the price tag. As already mentioned above, Maxima may turn out to be an expensive option for buyers in some areas. In this regard, we would highly suggest buyers check out the Altima first.
