2021 Toyota Prius Release Date, Price and Specs

2021 Toyota Prius review

The next-generation 2021 Toyota Prius model is upon us. The new fourth-generation vehicle is going to be offered soon and the pictures of it have been released and are already circling the net. The model will be the next step in the hybrid development offering many new improvements and changes which are supposed to change the face of Prius and also keep it competitive in this highly convoluted market.

Toyota first started producing the Prius in 1997. It went through three generations with the current one being made in 2009. The hybrid market is a fresh and new one for most of the automakers and it really helps to be the first one to do it. But it also makes it hard to stand at the top all the time because rivaling companies are constantly trying to take your place. That is why it was necessary to bring in the fourth-generation Prius finally to the market.

The new model will be updated in the same manner as Toyota has done with its latest Corolla model. First of all, they will be using the new Global Architecture platform which will make the car both lighter and also cheaper to build. They are now trying to cut costs and are sharing platforms and powertrains between cars, so this is going to be the first car that does so. The design of the car is also going to be sportier, making the 2021 Prius one of the more attractive models on the market.

Update: The newest continuation of the fourth-generation of the 2021 Toyota Prius gives us not especially new to get excited about. The Prius is one of the most recognizable vehicles in its segment, and certainly one of the best. What it brings to the table is immense fuel economy which rivals have tried to beat but the constantly improving Prius has managed to beat. This time we are getting more of the same.

But there are still some newest additions we can get excited about. Namely, the look of the car has been reshaped and the 2021 Prius looks exceptionally good. What we have also learned recently is that the eth model will be updated with the addition of lithium-ion batteries which are going to be seen on most of the models in the lineup. This is going to keep the 2021 Toyota Prius one of the best fuel economies and with the inclusion of the Prius Prime version, there is, even more, to hope for. According to recent information, this model can travel 25 miles on EV alone, which is an exceptional feet.

Since our last review about the 2021 Toyota Prius, some news has resurfaced so here is our take about them. This update will help you understand more what direction the vehicle is planning to take.

When is the Release Date for the 2021 Toyota Prius?

The pictures of the 2021 Toyota Prius model were the first to come and now we are going to get its first official unveiling. The model will be put on display at the Las Vegas Auto Show and we will be given the release date soon after that. Expect the car to be available for sale by the latter part of 2020.

Update: Most of you have been hoping to see the 2021 Toyota Prius to be released by the end of the year. Unfortunately, we have managed to learn that the car is going to be pushed a bit. But there is nothing major to worry about as the vehicle is only going to be pushed for a few months. So instead of seeing it by the end of 2020, we are going to get the release date for the beginning of 2021. A small change but fortunately not a vast one.

What is the Price for the 2021 Toyota Prius?

The new price rates for the 2021 Toyota Prius are still not offered. But based on the current price of the outgoing model, sold for a base MSRP of $24,200, we can expect the future car to be rated somewhere at $26,000.

How will the 2021 Toyota Prius Exterior Look?

Something very interesting is happening for the 2021 Toyota Prius. The model is going to be remodeled in such a way which will make the car a lot more attractive. The previous three generations were good cars but they were never stylish ones. But this time they are going to fix that and are giving the Prius a new identity.

The front end of the car is noticeably more aggressive. It adds new curved LED headlights that go right into the bumper. The hood is positioned lower and has a pair of creases on it as well. They also borrowed some parts from the Toyota Mirai model and you can see most of them in the front bumper.

The rear end is a big departure not just from the Prius model but from everything that Toyota has ever built so far. Looking at it from a distance the rear glass looks horizontal and the car looks flat. But it combines with the curved, vertical taillights and a larger tailgate which kind of juxtaposes itself in terms of its design.

Update: Probably the most surprising part of the 2021 Toyota Prius are its looks. We have never thought that praising the appearance of the Prius is going to be something we would write about. The fact of the matter is that this could still be viewed as something subjective. But we cannot deny the improvements made. The car can now boast with a really handsome look, which we would have never said for the previous entries in the Prius lineup. What has also improved is air efficiency. The model is going to be able to cut the wind in front of it much easier. With the new good look comes a useful part of the car which is also going to be seen as an important factor for it.

What are the Changes on the 2021 Toyota Prius Interior?

The inside of the 2021 Toyota Prius is not largely updated. It has just enough novelties so we can call it new. It still has the traditional high-mounted driver information cluster but the multi-layered dashboard gives it a very nice touch. It adds chrome trim and a new separate compartment for the infotainment screen and HVAC control buttons. The biggest problem though is the new shifter. It is too big and positioned awkwardly and takes up too much space. But we like the mobile phone charger and the cup holders that are placed in the tunnel and look very functional. But generally speaking, the cabin is nice and smooth but they could have refined it a little bit more.

Update: Unfortunately, the 2021 Toyota Prius is not going to have luxury inside as we have hoped to get. Based on its price, many people have actually thought that the model is going to update the inside. But the majority of the price increase is actually directed to the innovations for the powertrain. Thus the inside is still going to be updated and what we said before is going to remain. But the update says that the majority of the inside will be filled with plastic parts. Maybe not what everybody was hoping for but the aim is to improve the fuel economy of the car and anybody who wants luxury should look elsewhere.

But the powertrain of the 2021 Toyota Prius model is the most intriguing part. There are less details offered about it than anything else. But as rumors say, they will probably be using the Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive system which incorporates a new 1.8-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine combined with two electric motors and a CVT gearbox to make a total output of about 134 to 150 horsepower.

2021 Toyota Prius 0-60 mph and Top Speed

If the mentioned powertrain gets to be utilized, the 2021 Toyota Prius will probably have stellar acceleration rates. This means an acceleration of 10.4 seconds to get to 0-60 mph and followed by a top speed of 103 mph. This makes both stats better than the outgoing model.

Will Fuel Economy Improve?

As reported, the fuel economy of the 2021 Toyota Prius will improve. This is one of the main reasons people are getting a Prius and with already great fuel consumption rates, one can only wonder how much better does it get. Well, in fact, they are promising a 10 percent improvement, which will probably skyrocket the fuel consumption to a rate of 55 mpg combined.

Update: The latest update also includes the exact figures for the fuel economy of the 2021 Toyota Prius. The stats say that the vehicle is going to consume 54 mpg in the city and 50 mpg on the highway. Also announced are the EPA ratings for the Prius Eco which manages to get a consumption rate of 58 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway.

2021 Toyota Prius Dimensions and Size

No word about the size and dimensions of the 2021 Toyota Prius vehicle so far. We have the impression that the model will be different compared to the outgoing model but that the car is not going to expand too much. We predict it having a similar size and improving only slightly with the offer that we already have now.

Safety Equipment

Safety is another important aspect of every car and so will it be for the 2021 Toyota Prius model. The car will have several airbags that are supposed to protect the front and rear seat occupants together. Included are the side head, chest, and pelvis airbags, and also front knee airbags. A standard piece of equipment includes an integrated child seat, a seat-belt reminder, and an airbag cut-off switch.

Rivaling Cars

The hybrid market is a highly competitive one, and the 2021 Toyota Prius will have its hands full. The popularity of Prius cars has always been high, with a few falls here and there. But now the new 2021 Prius will be burdened with the need to keep the brand afloat and carry it into a new period. Some competition models will try to take this as an advantage and some of them are the Ford C-Max car and the Chevrolet Volt, which might provide the greatest opposition.
