VW has finally done something for its 2021 Volkswagen Amarok pickup truck. The vehicle finally got an update that we were waiting on and it was no time too soon as the piling competition has been rushing to update their own vehicles and has come up with a lot of new models of their own. Amarok gets a sparingly update outside but does a much better job for the inside of the car. There is also a new type of powertrain added which will make waves of its own.
The production of the VW Amarok model started way back in 2010 but the model has not yet entered the North American market. It has not been confirmed so far, but the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok might be the first one to do so. The US market is a highly competitive one when it comes to pickup trucks and is mainly dominated by American brands. But lately, a lot of foreign designers have expressed a desire to enter into the segment with their own offerings. Mercedes has already prepared its offer, with Tesla also making strides to do so and BMW only being rumored for now. It is probably best for Volkswagen to start early before the competition gets the better of them.
The 2021 Volkswagen Amarok has all the makings to make it in the US market. It actually has all the standard features and specs which you would expect from a desired pickup truck model. Its hauling and towing ability is high and it uses a rear-wheel drive and offers a 4WD as optional. Now when the news about the updated Amarok is fresh we are bringing you all the facts about the made changes. Read our review and study the pictures as well.
When is the Release Date of the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok Going to be?
The updated version of the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok has already received its release date for the home market. The vehicle will appear in Germany and its respective European markets in the middle of 2020. But what people are interested more in the North American debut. Since this car has the potential to appear there for the first time in its history, it would be best to do it now. But if it does it will happen no sooner than 2021.
A Small Price Increase for the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok
Compared to the outgoing model, the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok will gain a small price boost of €940. The total price of the 2021 version is going to rise to €25,720 in Germany and Europe, which would translate to $28,850 if they decide to release the car in the US.
A Subtle Exterior Update for the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok
The exterior of the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok has been given a small redesign and actually reminisces a little bit on the original model. The changes which have been added modify the front fascia a bit. There is a new grille design with the revamped LED headlights also appearing here. The lower fascia has a sporty appearance and there are also bigger aero dams given for this version. The changes made the car look far more utilitarian and give it a very rugged appeal.
The side of the car is simply a carryover and the Amarok looks pretty much the same. Some of the bigger inclusions added here are optional side steps that come offered, but generally, you get squared-off look as before. The same thing happened for the rear end, but the back of the Amarok was very modern, to begin with. So keeping the rear end almost intact is a good thing. The slimmer bumper design and also a frame-mounted trailer hitch given optionally are the parts that are included right now. For increased comfort, the driver can use the 14-way adjustable seats and they also come draped in Nappa leather. All in all, it is far more appropriate and comfortable both for the driver and your passengers as well.
A Far More Extensive Update for the Inside of the Car
The interior of the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok gets rid of most of its old parts and substitutes them with a range of modern ones. The dashboard and the center console are essentially the same but all the buttons and details on it have been updated. The steering wheel is a far more modern version and it also comes with controls for the infotainment screen and system. The gauge cluster is also different and the center stack has also received updates that largely concentrate on updated software and larger screens.
The HVAC vents have a different shape and can be used easily while below there are controls that are used to control the climate for the people at the back. There are bits and pieces of a new satin chrome trim seen on the dash and it makes for a more cohesive look.
Drivetrain Options of the Updated Pickup
Although the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok gives us only one engine option, it is a new engine that they are using this time around. The newly developed 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine is supposed to increase the output and make this vehicle better when it comes to fuel consumption. It will mount an impressive output of 220 horses and 406 pound-feet of twist and use an 8-speed automatic transmission which you can control with a shifter mounted on the console. This is what actually makes the Amarok so much appropriate for the US market as it possesses everything that the trucks here need.
0-60 mph and Top Speed
As far as the acceleration specs for the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok, they have also gained an improvement. With the new engine and the update given, the pickup is able to race down to 60 mph in 7.9 seconds and also has a top speed of 120 mph.
Has the Fuel Economy improved for the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok?
As far as the fuel consumption of the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok, the rates are still not officially. Compared to the last model, which consumed 7.6L/100km, the new one is supposed to make better rates and offer us some better fuel economy specs. These will be announced promptly and you will find out about them here.
Dimensions and Size of the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok
With the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok being an update, they have not made any changes for the size of the car. Even though this car might be the first of its kind to actually cross the pond and come to America, they have decided that the dimensions changes are going to be saved for the future. We do think that the car has an appropriate size so far so there is no need to tamper with it, the full length is 5,254mm, with its height being 1,834mm and the width amounting to 1,954mm.
The vehicle has to improve the Safety
The new 2021 Volkswagen Amarok will need to update its safety game. The fault with the old model is that it did not offer any back seat airbags which is a necessity for the market. This time they are not making that kind of a mistake and have added it to go along with other active safety features that the car uses. Completely updated is the Post Collision System which VW offers and also standard is the ESP system. All in all, they have taken safety much more seriously now and decided to do more about it and update it.
The Set of Rivaling Models
As mentioned, the 2021 Volkswagen Amarok will probably have a tough job to enter the American market. It will face the standout models which have already made a mark on the market and have established themselves as the go-to pickups when it comes to the fans. Such cars are the Ford Range and the Toyota Hilux and the Amarok will have to fight through those in order to really make a dent here.
