There have been several announcements concerning the 2021 Volkswagen Golf car. The model has released information about a facelifted version that will get its release date for the coming 2021 model year. The released pictures that people have already seen are sole proof to that and this time there were not only spy photos to confirm this.
The Volkswagen Golf car has been around since the 70s but the current generation made its debut in 2012. Since then there was not much offered for this car and it was due time that it received a facelift. They are going to build upon the sporty nature of the hatchback model and redesign it based on the current design language that the VW cars come with. This does not only include the restyling on the inside and the outside but also will update the powertrain and safety features of the car.
Although the VW Golf car has been a fan favorite model which is exemplified with the great overall sales this car has, the base version compared to its GTI and R versions has been looking a bit mundane. This is a great opportunity to update the car and get its deserved reshaping which is going to be greatly appreciated.
When is the 2021 Volkswagen Golf Getting a Release Date?
The model will appear in the market surprisingly early and the 2021 Volkswagen Golf is almost done. As we can see from the offered pictures, the production version of the car is already prepared for sales. It will become available for sale at the end of 2017 and will still be offered as a 2021 version no matter the early release.
2021 Volkswagen Golf Price Rating
For now, the full pricing of the 2021 Volkswagen Golf car is not available. But we do have listings for the US market which brings us the S version and the Golf Wolfsburg editions being offered at $19,895 and $21,595, both as base MSRP. We can expect a full price listing once the car gets closer to its release.
2021 Volkswagen Golf Exterior Redesign
The facelifted 2021 Volkswagen Golf vehicle now has a much sportier design to it. The most updated part is the front fascia which carries most of the updates placed for it. It adds a bigger air dam which rotates around a doubling back on top of the corner air intakes. The horizontal louver in each corner vent has the impression of a separate unit and does not look like a formed part of the fascia as before. The body lines are more pronounced and the chrome strip from the grille now extends into the headlights with a sporty looking LED strip as well.
The rear end of the new 2021 Volkswagen Golf does not change so much, but it does come with standard LED taillights, but the higher trim versions will come with animated flowing turn indicators. The range-topping models will include individual LED’s for the taillights and brake lights. Everything else will still be kept the same and other parts of the Golf go unchanged.
2021 Volkswagen Golf Interior Changes and Updates
Venturing inside the 2021 Volkswagen Golf, we still get a classic looking design of a Golf car. But this does not mean that the car has gone completely unchanged as there are a number of features that we see have been updated. That said, the most noticeable additions are the decorative trim panels placed on the dash, center console, and the doors. The seats get new covers and also the model is now sporting a new carbon fiber panel in the dash and on the door trims as well. This way they do keep the car fresh and do not enhance the price of the car with expensive redesigns.
The tech of the car is going to be updated and it adds the next generation of MIB infotainment systems. This is also going to mean that larger screens are being offered and also expanded features as well. You will get the Composition and Discover Media systems with an eight-inch touchscreen, while the Discover Pro system has a 9.2-inch display. But with this version, the black-and-white Composition Touch system will be discontinued.
Powertrain Options and Specs
Impressively enough, we are getting a change under the hood for the 2021 Volkswagen Golf version. Under the hood, we will be able to see a new 1.5-liter TSI EVO gasoline engine that makes 147 horsepower and 189 pound-feet of torque. This version comes with Active Cylinder Management and common-rail direct fuel injection and it manages to get some impressive EPA ratings.
There is going to be a secondary version offered as well which comes with a 1.5-liter TSI, a BlueMotion 1.5-liter Diesel engine that makes 128 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque.
2021 Volkswagen Golf 0-60 mph Acceleration Capacity
With the given and expanded engines, the 2021 Volkswagen Golf is going to update the acceleration capacity. The base engine version is going to achieve 0-60 mph in 7.7 seconds while the secondary engine makes it in 7.8 seconds. The top speed will be 125 mph for both versions of the engine.
2021 Volkswagen Golf Fuel Economy
The newly updated powertrain of the 2021 Volkswagen Golf will also offer updated fuel economy specs. The car is going to have some pretty good EPA ratings with the base version having a really good setup. The updates made for the engine enable a rating of 26 mpg city drive, 37 highway drive, and a combined rating of 48 mpg. The secondary engine gives us a rating of 31 mpg city, 42 mpg highway and a 51 mpg combined EPA rating.
There are going to be no changes for the 2021 Volkswagen Golf dimensions. The car is keeping to its standard size and the facelift is going to be carried over in the same manner. The upcoming car will have a length of 167.6 inches, wheelbase 103.8 inches, height 57.1 inches and width of 70.8, which actually makes it a little bit shorter compared to the competition vehicles but still offers us a great choice when it comes to the segment.
Safety Equipment and Changes
The 2021 Volkswagen Golf has also announced some expanded safety features. These are going to come in the form of offered specs and pieces of equipment that expand and offer a much safer environment for the people inside the car. The upgraded safety specs come with City Emergency Braking with a new Pedestrian Monitoring function, new Traffic Jam Assist, and Emergency Assist, which are the advanced features that the model is going to be updated with besides the standard offer that it already has.
The 2021 Volkswagen Golf will have a tough job keeping up with the competition. But with the expanded offer they are bringing in a very good setup that might affect the changes done to this model in a great manner. The cars to watch out for in this segment include the Mazda 3 and the Ford Focus hatchback version which are going to be the most noteworthy cars given here.
