2021 Volkswagen Jetta Release Date, Price and Redesign

2021 Volkswagen Jetta review

The 2021 Volkswagen Jetta arrives in an already crowded field of compact models. Although this car is pretty decent, it will still depend on how much the Jetta model is able to measure up to the competition that it will face. The Jetta has not reported anything special to add to this new model except some standard additions and updates, so it will be hard to face some rivaling cars which decided to go all out for their updates.

The Volkswagen Jetta is still VW’s best-selling model on the market. Although the popularity has not been as it used to and there are other cars from the lineup which have taken up the helm as being the best sellers currently, the Jetta is still pretty much a staple of VW’s offer. This time we are only getting it in hatchback form as every sedan model is now called a Golf.

We have recently scouted the pictures of the car and although they seem somewhat impressive there was still more that could have been done with the new Jetta. As the people of Volkswagen think that this is enough, we assume that it would be great for this vehicle to add more than the current parts. We shall see it all after the release date comes.

When is the Release Date for the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta?

Based on the currently released facts for the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta model, the car will probably make its debut by the start of 2021. The model is pretty much done and the only thing left is the official announcement and it leads us to believe that although eh car will be available for sale by the end of 2021, the release date will be for the very end of 2020.

What is the Potential Price of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta?

The price ratings for the new 2021 Volkswagen Jetta has already been made public, the car will be priced similarly as the current car. The starting model costs 17,895 USD, while the highest one is the GLI version which will come at a base MSRP rate of 28,995 USD.

Exterior Styling

The new 2021 Volkswagen Jetta is entering its seventh year of design, but this one will be almost the same as the last one was. It still has its own basic and simple look with its durable styling cues and a rectangular, three-box compact sedan shape. The car has your familiar slab-sided look with a familiar corporate feel. This car does not care about trends and does not have some visual distinction as the rivaling models have.

The front end has a three-bar grille that dips into the bumper and it also comes with reshaped headlights and fog lights. The rear end has an added spoiler on the trailing edge of the car LED taillights and it results in a more premium look that way. But this is pretty much it and the car will go on with this kind of setup into the future.

Interior Design and Update

The interior of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta is as straightforward as the exterior is. Familiar inclusions are classic VW, round gauges and a shifter with metallic trim. The seats have sporty lines and horizontal ridges but there are added changes like a multi-function steering wheel, which helps with the expansion of controls, and a larger 6.5-inch touchscreen.

The GLI version is the most distinguishable one of them all with a more aggressive look. It adds a honeycomb grille for the front and a diffuser with twin chrome-tipped tailpipes in the back. Also, the model has lower ride height, red-painted brake calipers, optional black 18-inch wheels, red stitching on the sport seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Powertrain and Output

There are going to be some changes for the powertrain lineup of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta. First of all, the diesel variant is opting out of the mix while the same thing goes for the Hybrid version. Thus it leaves us with three options still available, the base 1.4-liter turbo-4, the updated 1.8-liter turbo-4, and the range-topping 2.0-liter turbo-4.

The base engine is used in the SE trims and makes 150 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque and also uses a 5-speed manual as standard or a 6-speed automatic. The secondary engine makes 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque and is available for SEL trims models. The range-topping engine makes 210 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque and will also be used with a standard 6-speed manual.

0-60 mph and Top Speed

The speeding ability of the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta will not change for now and the same goes for the top speed of the car. It will make it to 0-60 mph in 8.4 seconds with the top speed is limited to 125 mph.

What is Fuel Economy Rating?

With the loss of both the diesel and hybrid variants, the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta’s fuel economy will differ compared to the previous ones. The three engines which are left are going to pose some useful stats but there are not going to be any overtly fuel-efficient ones available for the Jetta car. The 1.4-liter turbo-4 engine has a 28 mpg city, 38 highway, 32 combined with the automatic and 28/40/33 mpg with the 5-speed manual shifter. The 1.8-liter turbo-4 engine is rated at 25/36/29 mpg with the automatic transmission while the 2.0-liter turbo-4 offers EPA stats of 24/33/27 mpg.

The update to the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta did not bring any changes to the dimensions of the car. We are looking at the same car in terms of size. The car does not change style-wise so nobody thought that it would change in terms of dimensions. The full length remains at 183.3 inches, the wheelbase is 104.4 inches, the width is 70 inches and the height is 57.2 inches. The Jetta also offers quite a favorable interior spacing with 94 cu ft of interior passenger volume and 16 cu ft for the cargo.

Safety Characteristics and Equipment

The new 2021 Volkswagen Jetta will take the safety scores from the previous model. The car received a stronger structure some time ago and it immediately influenced its safety specs. This also leads us to them transferring the basic equipment here which will result in a very favorable safety offer. Six airbags, stability control systems, and a rearview camera are available for all Jetta models. Blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alerts and given for the SE trims while the SEL trims come with forwarding collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

Since we have the 2021 Volkswagen Jetta on our hands we also have their rivals to think about. It is still not clear how well the new VW Jetta will squeeze in this tight segment especially by proving a weak update. Cars like the Chevrolet Cruze, Ford Focus and 2021Hyundai Elantra are still valued much higher in the segment.
