News

It was initially thought that the 2022 Mazda 6 model is not going to be produced. The previous 2021 model was labeled as the last in line for their mid-size sedan segment. However, things got turned upside down in a magnificent fashion after news broke that Mazda is giving another stab at their third-generation 6 models.

Everyone’s thoughts were that a new sedan model is in the works. But those speculations have been put on hold as Mazda 6 is officially a go. The vehicle will take advantage of the brand’s newest rear-wheel-drive platform coupled with a novel inline-six engine that could make it under the hood.

2022 Mazda 6 Release Date

Our review starts with the 2022 Mazda 6 release date news. With the date pushed, in order to do some more work on the newest RWD platform, Mazda 6 will see the light of day in April 2022. Hopes of releasing the car earlier were put to rest after it was announced that the car is going to be paired with the latest inline-six engine. Also, since they are looking to break into the high-end segment with their latest sedan, it will take a bit more work.

Pushing things a bit back was a great choice on their part. Rushing would have perhaps resulted in a variety of mistakes that they could not afford. This release date seems a lot more realistic when it comes to all the additions that they plan to place inside the car.

2022 Mazda 6 Pricing

The starting price for the 2022 Mazda 6 is $24,475. This is more than appreciated as this is a figure well worth of the segment that it competes in. The Touring model will be priced at $27,075 while the Grand Touring comes with a price tag of $30,157.

The top of the line Mazda 6 trim for 2022 is going to be the Signature model, which is the priciest version. It can be had for a price of $35,900.

Models

We did hope to get a few trims for the 2022 Mazda 6 model. They did manage to include the standard fleet of trims that we expected. Even though Mazda is doing their best with this car, it was unrealistic to expect more than the usual offering. The set of trims starts with the Sports model and continues on with the Touring and Grand Touring versions. The top dawgs are the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature.

2022 Mazda 6 Sport

The Sport version is the cheapest trim but by no accounts the most basic one. It offers a variety of features that make it a perfect vehicle for the sedan segment. Packed inside are amenities such as Cylinder Deactivation, Blind Spot And Lane Departure Warnings, Dusk Sensing LED Headlamps, Adaptive Cruise Control, a 6-speaker audio system, and Dual Zone Front Climate Control.

Not to mention that it rides on some really nice 17-inch painted alloy wheels. All for a price of around $24,475.

2022 Mazda 6 Touring

The Touring version goes one step further and ups the ante when it comes to comfort additions and perks. The Mazda 6 Touring can be recognized by the added Self-Leveling Headlights, Multi-Level Heating Front Seats, Rear Ventilation Ducts, Headlamps, and Leatherette Upholstery.

The rims are a bit bigger as this one rides on 19-inch pained allow wheels and costs $27,075.

2022 Mazda 6 Grand Touring

The Mazda 6 Grand Touring is the top-of-the-line model coming in 2022. If you want to get the best out of the car then this is it. The Grand Touring is graced with additions as a 11-speaker Bose Audio System, a Universal Remote Transmitter, Emergency Braking Assist, and 3 Months Of Paid Satellite Radio Service. The price for this one goes to $30,157.

2022 Mazda 6 Grand Touring Reserve

Now we are entering the top class and the Grand Touring Reserve trim can certainly be labeled as such. The Reserve is packed with Adaptive Self-Leveling Headlights, 8-way Powered Front Seats, a Heated Steering Wheel, Leather Upholstery, Multi-Level Heating Rear Seat, and Ventilated Front Seat. The price may sound a bit steep but a tag of $32,675 sounds more than appropriate when you consider everything that you get inside the car.

2022 Mazda 6 Signature

The Signature trim is a completely different story. You are getting everything that you paid for at a price of $35,900. The trim is the top trim for a reason as the additions packed within it truly speak wonders about the car. The prime additions that the Signature attracts buyers are 36 Months Of Paid Satellite Radio Service, Front And Rear Parking Sensors, Satellite Radio W/Real Time Traffic, Front, Side, And Rear View Camera, and some comfy Premium Leather Upholstery.

Interior

2022-mazda-6-interior

The interior changes for the 2022 Mazda 6 are going to be more upscale. The main focus is making the car more comfortable, particularly with improved materials and comfort additions, as well as making it a bit sportier looking. Leather heated seats are just the tip of the iceberg. Better things come with technical upgrades that are truly going to make the difference when it comes to this car.

Compared to the previous model, the interior layout will be fitted to provide more space. The Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord are models that have the best interior spacing in the segment. Therefore, Mazda 6 has adapted its interior spacing to rival the best cars in the segment.

They are looking to add to the comfort of the car with such inclusions as Nappa leather, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated leather steering wheel, and a head-up display.

An improved infotainment system is the cream of the crop for this model. An 8-inch touch screen infotainment display combined with the Mazda Connect infotainment system will make a lot of difference with the buyers. Bluetooth connectivity with USB ports is a must as well as SiriusXM as a third-party radio system.

Exterior

Basing the exterior look of the 2022 Mazda 6 on its model, the car is looking completely different as opposed to the previous vehicle. The car will feature a low-slung sporty design that will complement the interior of the car. At the same time, it will compare more than well with the competition and perhaps even overcome them.

Announcements have been made about the technical additions. So we do expect to see LED brake lights, a lip spoiler, an express open/sliding and sunroof with sunshade, as well as rain detection whispers. 19-inch allow wheels will also be featured, but not on the base model.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

A new platform deserves a new engine, and that is exactly the idea with which the creators of the 2022 Mazda 6 are going. The powertrain that we are talking about is the 3.3L Inline Six-Cylinder engine which will complement the car and its needs really well. The expected power is going to be 350 hp.

But the standard engine will still be the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engines that create 187 horsepower. The turbocharged version ups the output at 250horsepwoer. The torque will improve to 320 pound-feet.

All of the given engines will be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, but there is a possibility of improving to an 8-speed automatic. After all, it is what the competition is going with so the same should be expected from this model as well.

2022 Mazda 6 Fuel Economy and MPG

As far as fuel economy numbers go for the 2022 Mazda 6, they are going to remain almost the same. Rates say that the car makes 26 mpg city drive, 35 mpg on the highway, which is pretty much the same. But models that get the new upgraded version of the engine are rated at 23 mpg city, and 31 mpg on the highway.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The safety and the dependability of the 2022 Mazda 6 are going to improve immensely. The slew of added features is very impressive. The previous model already got rated with a Top Safety Pick+ and the 2022 version will build upon this aspect by adding a Blind Spot Monitoring System, Advanced Smart City Brake Support, a 360-degree Camera, Automated Emergency Braking, and Front And Rear Parking Sensors.

Cargo

Don’t expect much from the cargo capacity of the 2022 Mazda 6 model. With 14.7 cubic feet of space, it does offer you enough to do your weekly grocery shopping. But when compared to the competition, it does lack some space. People who want more are certainly going to go with their rivals.

Dimensions and Weight

The size of the 2022 Mazda 6 is not going to change immensely. It is still going to be somewhere at 191.5 inches in length. The wheelbase is 111.4 inches, width 72.4 inches, height 57.1 inches. It seats 5 passengers and has an interior capacity of 97 ft3. The curb weight stands at 3,538 lb.

2022 Mazda 6 Top Competitors

The 2022 Mazda 6 competes against Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord as its main rivals. It is going to be a tough sell against these two cars, but it is doable especially with all the new additions made.

Versus the Toyota Camry

Both cars have stellar handling and driving ability. However, the Camry has a standard four-cylinder engine and a V6 optional one that is stronger than what Mazda has to offer. Camry also has far better interior spacing (second row) and improved gas mileage. We shall see how Mazda 6 manages to compete with these figures.

Versus the Honda Accord

The Mazda 6 has superior and far better athletic handling as compared to the Accord. However, Honda’s car has two turbocharged four-cylinder engine options that offer a gentle ride. Also, passenger room and cargo space especially are parts where the Accord takes the cake. Nevertheless, you can’t go wrong with any of them. Both cars are more than solid picks.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

There haven’t been any spectacular changes when it comes to the warranty of the 2022 Mazda 6 model. A three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty and a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty are still what we get. It isn’t bad by any accounts but is the same as the competition proposes.
